Ruben Amorim: No Regrets Taking United Job Despite Difficult Start

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Apr 27, 2025 2:00 am

Ruben Amorim insists he has \"no regrets\" about accepting the Manchester United managerial position mid-season, despite enduring a challenging start that could see the club finish at their lowest Premier League position in decades.

The 40-year-old Portuguese coach, who succeeded Erik ten Hag in November, has won just six Premier League matches since taking charge. With five games remaining, United could potentially finish as low as 17th place, just one spot above the relegation zone and their lowest finish since 1974.

Amorim acknowledged that during a particularly difficult stretch in December, he questioned whether he should have delayed his arrival until the summer. However, after stabilizing results somewhat and reaching the Europa League semifinals, he now believes the experience will benefit the club\'s long-term prospects.

\"We are suffering a lot here. There is a lot of frustration and a lot of suffering but I feel, in this moment, maybe because we are near the end, this is the most important time, maybe, in the next few years,\" Amorim told reporters at a Friday news conference. \"We are going to use all the information to prepare better the next few years.\"

The former Sporting CP manager admitted taking \"a risk\" by allowing Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia to leave during the January transfer window without bringing in replacements, but defended the decision as necessary for the club\'s future.

\"We lack a lot of things in the team,\" Amorim said. \"I understand in January, you were talking about Rashford and Antony, we lost these players and didn\'t bring new ones. It was a risk. But there are things here that are more important than scoring 10 more goals this season.\"

\"We are trying to do something that is more important. We can hurt the squad now but in the future it will help the club. I think we are in that path.\"

\"No regrets,\" Amorim emphasized. \"This is the top [that] a coach can achieve, so no I have no regrets at all.\"
