Christian Pulisic, Tim Weah Blast Former USMNT Players Over Criticism

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Aug 14, 2025 2:47 am

Christian Pulisic and Tim Weah delivered scathing responses to former US men\'s national team players who criticized the current squad, with Weah calling the pundits \"evil\" in a new Paramount+ docuseries.

The comments appear in the latest episodes of the Pulisic docuseries released this week. The series covers the team\'s disappointing Copa América group stage exit and fourth-place Nations League finish.

Former USMNT stars including Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan, and Tim Howard criticized Pulisic\'s decision to skip the 2025 Gold Cup due to fatigue. The Milan winger cited exhaustion after consecutive 50-game seasons as his reason for withdrawing.

\"In my opinion [they] disrespected me in a lot of ways, and completely forgot about what I\'ve done for this national team for 10 years,\" Pulisic said in the docuseries.

Pulisic\'s father Mark, a former professional player, defended his son against the criticism. He accused the former players of seeking attention through controversial commentary rather than providing constructive analysis.

\"These [pundits] want clicks, social media, \'subscribe to my channels,\' \'listen to my podcasts\' or whatever,\" Mark Pulisic said. \"It\'s jealousy. People want to be in his shoes.\"

Weah provided the most pointed response to the former players\' comments. The Lille forward questioned their motivations while acknowledging their past contributions to US soccer.

\"I think those guys are chasing checks, and for me I just feel like they\'re really evil,\" Weah said. \"Christian himself has had a better career than every single one of the guys that speak negative on us.\"

The controversy stems from recent USMNT struggles including early Copa América elimination and poor Nations League performance. The team had won the previous three Nations League tournaments before finishing fourth in 2025.

Pulisic finished last season as one of Milan\'s top performers despite the team\'s eighth-place Serie A finish and missing European competition this year.
