Liverpool have reached agreement to sign striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for $176 million, setting a new Premier League transfer record, according to ESPN sources.
The deal surpasses Chelsea\'s $144 million signing of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in January 2023. Newcastle will receive $176 million total due to solidarity payments while Liverpool pays $170 million for the Sweden international.
Isak will undergo a medical on Monday before completing his move on a six-year contract. The transfer deadline expires at 2 p.m. ET on Monday.
The 25-year-old striker has not appeared in Newcastle\'s first three Premier League matches this season. He also missed the club\'s preseason tour of Asia while agitating for a transfer away from St. James\' Park.
Second Record Deal This Summer
Liverpool previously broke their club transfer record by signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for $135 million total package. The Wirtz deal included an initial $135 million fee with $22 million in potential bonuses.
Isak released a statement earlier this month claiming promises had been \"broken\" by Newcastle hierarchy. The striker insisted a summer move would benefit all parties involved.
Newcastle Scrambles for Replacements
Newcastle completed a club-record $102 million signing of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart on Saturday. The club has also seen bids of $68 million and $75 million rejected for Wolverhampton\'s Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Manager Eddie Howe previously called for \"clarity\" regarding Isak\'s situation after the striker\'s extended absence. Newcastle initially maintained Isak was not for sale despite his public transfer request.
Isak scored 27 goals in 42 appearances last season, finishing second only to Mohamed Salah in Premier League scoring charts.
