Alex Ferguson will help Manchester United in selecting the club's new manager.
Ferguson was responsible for the selection of David Moyes, who was dismissed before he could even finish his first season.
United are deliberating between Louis van Gaal and Carlo Ancelotti to replace Moyes.
Diego Simeone is also being considered, but United prefers a manager with more experience at a high level club after seeing the struggles of Moyes.
Laurent Blanc has been ruled out, though United has discussed José Mourinho.
"There is not a vast pool to choose from," a high-level source at Old Trafford admitted.
