Alexis Sanchez gave Barça an early lead in the 33rd minute with a powerful strike in the box after Lionel Messi chested the ball down.
But Atleti equalized in the 49th minute with a Diego Godín header out of a corner kick.
Atleti played nearly the entire match without Diego Costa, who went out in the 16th minute with a recurrence of a hamstring injury. Arda Turan exited just seven minutes later for Atleti.
