Manuel Pellegrini believes Raheem Sterling would cost a buying club as much as £100 million if Liverpool were to sell him.
Sterling has yet to sign a new contract with Liverpool despite having an offer on the table for months.
Pellegrini does not think there is good value to be found in the English player market.
He said: "It is important to have English players but can you sign them? You are talking about trying to sign players from clubs that won't sell them.
"Can you get Sterling? Maybe if you go to Liverpool with £100 million you can."
