Alejandro Garnacho scored in the 30th minute for United after Josko Gvardiol headed a ball over the head over keep Stefan Ortega as the left-back and keeper miscommunicated.
Kobbie Mainoo scored a second for United nine minutes later after Garnacho entered the box on the right side of the pitch, passed it central to Bruno Fernandez who then had a one touch pass to the left to Mainoo.
United largely neutralized City\'s attack with Phil Fodden in particular unable to have any threatening opportunities. City subbed on Jeremy Doku at halftime and he created more chances from the left side including a goal in the 87th minute.
Despite City dominating possession, United were the better and more fluid side in the match.
