Virgil van Dijk revealed there has been \"progress\" in his contract negotiations with Liverpool amid continued speculation over his future at the club. The 33-year-old defender\'s current deal expires at the end of the season, along with teammates Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
\"There is progress, yeah,\" van Dijk said following Liverpool\'s 3-2 defeat to Fulham on Sunday. When asked if that means he will remain at Anfield next season, he added: \"I don\'t know, we\'ll see. Listen, these are internal discussions and we\'ll see. I love the club, I love the fans and they were there for us again and we wanted to reward them.\"
Sources told ESPN that Real Madrid are confident of landing Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer, though there remains optimism at Liverpool that both van Dijk and Salah will sign new deals. Van Dijk has captained Liverpool since 2023 after joining the club in 2018. Van Dijk was Premier League Player of the Season in 2019.
