Manchester United will resist any transfer offers for captain Bruno Fernandes this summer despite interest from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal, a source has told ESPN. The Portuguese midfielder is considered one of the few untouchable players in United\'s squad as they plan a summer rebuild.
Al Hilal have added Fernandes to their list of potential high-profile signings after previously targeting Liverpool\'s Mohamed Salah. The Saudi club will compete in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in June and July.
United are reportedly open to offers for most of their first-team squad as they work to address financial concerns. However, Fernandes\' future at Old Trafford remains secure according to club sources.
Fernandes\' Commitment To United
The 30-year-old midfielder signed a long-term contract with United in August after rejecting interest from Saudi Arabia last summer. His current deal runs until 2027 with an option for an additional year.
United manager Ruben Amorim has been emphatic about keeping the Portuguese international at the club despite links to other European giants including Real Madrid.
\"No, it\'s not going to happen,\" Amorim said in March regarding speculation about Fernandes leaving. \"He\'s not going anywhere because I\'ve already told him.\"
\"I want Bruno here because we want to win the Premier League again, so we want the best players to continue with us,\" Amorim added. \"He\'s 30, but he\'s still so young, because he plays 55 games every season.\"
Fernandes has been crucial to United\'s campaign this season with 19 goals and 18 assists across all competitions. Sources indicate that despite United\'s disappointing domestic season, Fernandes remains content at Old Trafford after developing a strong relationship with his compatriot Amorim.
The midfielder\'s importance to the team has been underscored by his consistent output, providing nine assists in the Premier League alone this season while wearing the captain\'s armband.
