Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta appeared to take a swipe at newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool ahead of his side\'s crucial Champions League semifinal second leg against Paris Saint-Germain.
With Arsenal\'s domestic title hopes mathematically extinguished, the European competition remains their only path to silverware this season. The north London side currently trail Liverpool by 15 points with just three Premier League matches remaining.
\"Winning trophies is about being in the right moment in the right place,\" Arteta stated. \"Liverpool have won the title with less points than we have in the last two seasons. With the points of the past two seasons we have two Premier League [titles].\"
The 43-year-old manager\'s comments highlight a frustrating reality for Arsenal, who accumulated 89 and 84 points in their previous two campaigns where they finished second to Manchester City. Liverpool secured this season\'s championship with just 82 points, fewer than Arsenal\'s runner-up totals in consecutive years.
The Merseyside club could still surpass Arsenal\'s previous point totals with three games left in their season. Coincidentally, the two sides face each other at Anfield on Sunday, just days after Arsenal\'s crucial European fixture.
