Arsenal finalized negotiations with Sporting CP to sign striker Viktor Gyokeres for $74.2 million plus $11.7 million in add-ons. The 27-year-old Sweden international has agreed to a five-year contract with the Premier League club. Gyokeres\' agent waived his fee to facilitate the transfer after prolonged negotiations with Sporting president Frederico Varandas.

Arsenal\'s offer exceeded the €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons that Gyokeres believed was previously agreed for his summer departure. The striker has not returned to pre-season training with Sporting amid his desire to join Arsenal.

Manager Mikel Arteta identified Gyokeres as Arsenal\'s preferred choice to recruit a specialist center-forward. The Swedish striker prioritized Arsenal over all other suitors and wants to join the squad immediately.

Gyokeres joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 and developed into one of Europe\'s most in-demand players. Last season he scored 54 goals in 52 games as Sporting won the league title and cup double.

The transfer represents Arsenal\'s fifth signing of the summer window. The club previously added midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, and agreed a deal for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke.

Arsenal finished second in the Premier League last season, ten points behind champions Liverpool with 17 fewer goals scored. The club lacked a recognized number nine for much of the campaign after injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Sporting director Andrea Berta had admired Gyokeres for some time before Arsenal developed strong interest earlier this year. The striker has scored 15 goals in 26 international appearances for Sweden since making his debut at age 20.

Gyokeres\' arrival adds a new dimension to Arteta\'s tactical setup. His 68 league goals since joining Sporting represents more than double any other player in Portugal during that period, establishing him as a prolific finisher with explosive pace and physical presence.
