James Maddison will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee and will likely miss most of the upcoming season for Tottenham Hotspur.
Maddison suffered the injury 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute in Spurs\' 1-1 friendly against Newcastle on Sunday.
Maddison\'s 2024-25 season was cut short by a knee injury he suffered in the first leg of Spurs’ Europa League semi-final victory over Bodo/Glimt in May. Maddison is now also considered unlikely for England\'s World Cup roster given his injury timeline.
In the preseason, Thomas Frank has experimented with a 4-2-3-1 system and Maddison would have slotted in perfectly as the No 10.
