AC Milan Confirm Interest in Manchester United\'s Rasmus Hojlund
AC Milan confirmed their interest in signing Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund after the striker was dropped from Ruben Amorim\'s squad for Sunday\'s Premier League opener against Arsenal. The Rossoneri are exploring a potential return to Serie A for the 22-year-old Denmark international.
Hojlund watched United\'s 1-0 defeat from the stands at Old Trafford as Amorim started summer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. New arrival Benjamin Sesko earned a bench spot while Højlund was excluded entirely from the matchday squad.
Milan sporting director Igli Tare confirmed the club\'s pursuit during an interview with Mediaset on Sunday. The Italian giants view Hojlund as an attractive option given his positive reputation from his previous Atalanta spell.
\"Højlund is a good option for us. We are thinking about him, but in the transfer market, you never know what could happen,\" Tare said.
Sources told ESPN that Manchester United want approximately $40.6 million for Hojlund, who cost $92.5 million from Atalanta in August 2023. Milan prefer either a loan arrangement or a significantly reduced transfer fee.
The striker has struggled at Old Trafford, scoring just 14 goals in 62 Premier League appearances since his big-money move. Despite his poor form, Hojlund has indicated he wants to fight for his place under Amorim.
United manager Amorim avoided confirming Hojlund\'s future when questioned after the Arsenal defeat. The Portuguese coach suggested squad rotation necessitates difficult decisions with the transfer window closing September 1.
\"It is our player -- we have to make choices. He has to fight for his place. We will see what\'s going to happen. Rasmus has the same characteristics as Sesko, so sometimes we need to choose,\" Amorim said.
