It is time to announce The Winner of the First Mass Dispatch Who Wants To Be A Moderator? Invitational.

Quite a few users decided to apply and while some applications were better than others, I really appreciate all of the users who applied. They were all sincere and wanted to make RealGM a better place.

After The User Vote that will start Thursday for who wins a Moderator Interview with me, I will be personally contacting everyone who sent in an application to explain their future prospects for becoming a Moderator.

For now, only one of you can win The Mass Dispatch Who Wants To Be a Moderator? Invitational.

Going into this Invitational, I wanted to find someone who could make a difference on our NFL Forums.

I wanted someone who would be dedicated to starting discussion, getting users involved, had the energy and was knowledgeable about The NFL in General. While I did a lot of the applications, one person stood out.

The User I have selected is ALL of these and has actually wanted to become a Moderator for some time . He actually has asked in the past about becoming a Moderator and despite him not becoming one, it never stopped his drive and now that perseverance has paid off.

I have told no Moderators, Users or even The Winner my decision until now.....

RealGM User Vote To Decide Who Gets A Interview To Become A Moderator

I have posted all of the Mass Dispatch Who Wants To Be A Moderator? Invitational applications on The Mass Dispatch Forum.

The Winner will receive an interview with me to become an NFL Moderator and in the first Mass Dispatch following the interview. I will publicly make and explain my decision to or too not make that user a Moderator.

So, I will be held accountable one way or another and if I do not think the user is ready to become a Moderator, I have to publicly explain my decision.

The Voting closes on Sunday August 17.

You mentioned that you will be adding a new moderator to a growing forum.

Based on the way you phrased that sentence, it seems like you have already picked out a person to be that new moderator, correct?

Howard's Response: Not at all.

Here's the situation on that forum I mentioned last week.

It's a Forum with a growing base who I feel will need to add a Moderator by the start of the season. One user who I asked earlier this year declined to be a candidate due to time constraints.

However, there are several newer candidates who I felt it was soon to go with earlier this year who could emerge from that group to become a Moderator.

I have in no way decided who that person will be.

NyCeEvO Also Asks: Do you foresee a time when a new moderator for an NBA forum will be selected through an application process (like what you're doing for the NFL moderator opening)?

Howard's Response: If I had to decide today, I would say no but it's not out of the question that I will one day do this for The NBA Forums or maybe an individual NBA Team Forum.


Retired Moderator Kyphi Asks: Dear Howard,

Let me point out that I was supportive of creating an Off-Topic Australian Board. That turned out to be a mistake since they have claimed General Off-topic board but do not allow non Aussies (or ones they claim) to win their RTT's. ReturnofMVP3's treatment after he won an RTT there is the latest example (it's on the restricted board now).

The sports they discuss can be on the international sports board. While I enjoy their posts on the GOTB (most have good senses of humor), there is no reason to keep that board open since, obviously, they use the OT board (which does not deserve ridicule from mods, btw,) instead.

An Australian only topic on the OT board could easily suffice instead of an entire board and would allow RealGM some (insert computer talk here) for more urgent needs. The Aussies are not going to like this and have already mocked me, but it makes sense for RealGM, as far as I know.

Howard's Response: When I created our Australian Sports and Discussion Forum, it was not just because of that thread our Australian fans had on our General Off-Topic Board, it was also because of the contributions maybe users from Down Under had made to our forums over the years.

We have had many Australian Basketball Fans visiting RealGM since we launched 14 years (My goodness I'm getting old) ago next month.

This includes one of the two men who started and is still with RealGM Michael Benbow.

Don't get me wrong, that thread on the GOTB and the campaign got the movement going for the forum but it was the Australian History of RealGM that put everything over the top.

Even though traffic is down a bit, ASAD is here to stay.

Inside The Administrator's Office

Obviously, there are some users disappointed about not winning The Mass Dispatch Who Wants To Be A Moderator? Invitational but that in no way closes the door on anyone who applied to become a Moderator in the future.

Many Moderators have gone through the process and not become a Moderator.

However, some users have gone through the process a second time and ended up becoming A Moderator.

In a future addition of Mass Dispatch, I will discuss The Moderator Process.

The point of this is that it never hurts to put yourself out there and get noticed by me. Many times I come away impressed with someone and sometimes I even look for a spot on The Moderator for them.

Above in Ask Howard, there was a question about our Australian Sports and Discussion Forum.

This forum was born in part because of a grass roots effort by some users.

The possibilities are endless here.

If anyone wants their forum to have their own Off-Topic Forum, A Fantasy Sub Forum, College Team Forums, etc. All you got to do is start a movement and you never know where it could lead.
