I think it's massive to be honest. Consistent t.v. scheduled on multiple channels at multiple times and days.

In all the articles I read, I couldn't find if all Playoff games are now guaranteed to be on TV, anyone know?

I don't know about the playoff games. I would assume yes.

The 21 sun flares around the lion are obviously because we're the 21st team. I'm liking it the more I look at it.

Which MLS teams suffer the most?

Post#1326 » by JazzMatt13 » Wed May 14, 2014 6:42 am

I wanted to see who everyone thought would suffer the most during FIFA World Cup:

Teams listed from most points to lowest:

Seattle Sounders: Yedlin, Evans and Dempsey (two defenders and a forward)

Real Salt Lake: Beckerman and Rimando (1 midfielder and 1 goalie)

Sporting Kansas City: Besler and Zusi (1 defender and 1 midfielder)

Houston Dynamo: Davis (1 midfielder)

Columbus Crew: Parkhurst (1 defender)

San Jose Earthquakes: Goodson and Wondolowski (1 defender and 1 forward)

LA Galaxy: Gonzalez and Donovan (1 defender and 1 forward)

Toronto FC: Bradley (1 midfielder)

Philadelphia Union: Edu (1 midfielder)

From what I understand all 30 will be in training for next 2 weeks then a friendly, and then we cut 7, and off to FIFA June 1. So pretty much all games through June. At this point, I am assuming all guys on my list are making it, because I would be shocked if they didn't:

My top 4 are: Seattle, Kansas City, Galaxy and Salt Lake

Kansas City: I think they take a big blow with Zusi out. Dwyer might have the most goals, but from what I have seen Zusi is the big play maker. I think they will lag on offense. As for defense, I think it is a blow, but they still got Collin, so I don't see a huge problem. They do however have a lot of games bunched in for the rest of May, with two doosies, with two road games @DC and @Houston.

Seattle: Their defense is going to take a hit, but they will still have Anibaba, Marshall, and Gonzalez, so I don't see a huge problem. I do see a big problem with Dempsey gone, and with him and Evans, it is a huge blow so Sounders should be worrying! A lot of weight on Martins. They have the least games through June, but they have @Vancover, and vsSalt Lake back to back.

LA: I think they will have the least troubles on my list offensively. Donovan hasn't been the go to guy. Keane has been the man and will easily keep doing his thing, I am not sure if he has national duties, if he does than their offense is toast. Their defense is another story, Gonzalez is an awesome defender. Of course they will still have Delagarza and Leonardo, so they will take a hit, but I think they can make up for it.

Salt Lake: They are so deep they probably won't even notice. But the big one here is Rimando. They don't exactly have a super star goal keeper waiting on the bench to replace him, and with Beckerman not out there controlling the game, Attinella will probably have more trouble than he did when Rimando was taking USA to the Gold Cup. He probably has the toughest job from all guys subbing in for USMNT players. The midfield should be fine, they got Grabavoy, Morales and Gil, and Morales has been awesome. Not to mention Plata who is scorching, who will be taking charge while Soborio is out, because he will be on the Costa Rican team.

Kansas and Seattle, In my opinion, will suffer the most during the World Cup camps. I feel like Salt Lakes depth is good enough to get through and play at the level they have been. While we don't have someone who plays CDM purely like Beckerman does, I think Grabavoy can fill in nicely for a little bit giving Gil and Velasquez a shot a playing the wings together for once.

I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me but I would cut:
Brad Evans
DeAndre Yedlin
Alejandro Bedoya
Joe Corona
Brad Davis
Chris Wondolowski

The last spot is tough, as either Edu or Beckerman could be cut since both are potential backups to JJ and we have Cameron who can also play there. Beckerman has been an absolute workhorse, but Edu might be more versatile. One of the youngsters like Green, Diskeruud, or Johannsson could also be the last cut. Or maybe they get rid of Goodson, who has been really hit or miss at times or Brooks who might not be ready yet to help the team.

I think ultimately, the final cut will be one of the youngsters, since they didn't bring up Johnson/Hamid to sit on the bench as the #3 keeper and "get WC experience."

Either way, I think many of the MLS players will be returning to their teams at the end of camp.

Also gotta remember, MLS won't have any games during the WC Group stage (i think) Most the games these players are missing are during the 2 weeks of preliminary camp. If the US can have a miracle run in Brazil, they only team i see really suffering is SKC. Zusi and Besler are huge for their team. SKC is an average team without them.

I agree with you for the most part, Kdawg. I think it'll end up being Green getting cut.

RSL fortunate to get 3 points tonight. Looked like another late game meltdown but luckily held on 2-1.

I calculated and most teams got about 5-6 games left till the shut down when it is all FIFA, most got about 3 games left in May, and about 3 in June total. I didn't think to check all team's national players for other countries except Keane and Sabo, and only Sabo is on non-usmnt FIFA duties, that I know of.

RSL had a sweet game. I am watching it on DVR, Plata and Morales didn't have no problem being the under-radar stars but that wasn't shocking to anyone who knows them! It was Sandoval and Grossman who really stepped up.

Grossman was the most impressive taking Beckerman's spot, it is one thing for others to step up and carry weight, but it is another for the replacement to really hold his own. Atinella had 2 good catches and 1 great save on that long shot with the instant hit back by the 2nd player which led to corner at the 72 minute mark, but overall he didn't face any diversity other than that, which will come when RSL faces Seattle.

We've been looking great. Absolutely trashed the Union last night. Saw it in person at PPL Park. Fagundez is going to be an absolute stud, I can see him leaving for Europe in a few years easily.

Amazing atmosphere at PPL Park. The Union fans there were pretty hardcore for the most part. Probably going to go back for Greece/Nigeria later this summer.

Hopefully RSL can take care of business against Dallas next week. The Sounders game will then become very interesting.

Plata is playing out of his mind right now. MVP caliber season for him so far.

Dallas and Seattle are going to be very interesting for RSL, both being difficult in their own way, I am excited for both, going for 12 undefeated, and then against the best team in league (as far as right now). Wins against them two, would solidify the dominance.

Rest of RSL and Sounders games in May are big matches I plan on watching. KC, NE, and Houston also have some decent matches, they all play solid football worth watching.

Galaxy, Philly and San Jose are all sitting way below where their talent should be, especially with their stars who are suppose to be at FIFA level. With this years performance, I wouldn't be shocked if their players get dropped and come back, which would give their teams an edge with other winning clubs out a few stars. Wondo and Dono, are both sitting at 10 points or less in standings, were talking 9 teams with over 5 points ahead aka 2 wins ahead. I doubt they get dropped with Johnson out, but I am just wondering if USA even has a chance with them two under-performing.

I wish this whole chart would fit, but view image to see the whole thing.

Just shows how much MLS has moved up sending 31 players to the World Cup. Ahead of some pretty decent leagues.

Not that the East isn't tough, but I'm so thankful TFC isn't a Western Conference team.

That race looks like it will be tight all season.

Big win from L.A. last night putting them back up into contention.

Fox Sports 1 getting so many games is a mistake, they'll set soccer in the US back a couple of years.

The penalty against Vancouver today was terrible.

In no way should a PK been awarded.
