Cristiano Ronaldo's agent says Real Madrid star could make MLS move in 2018

Could the reigning FIFA player of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo, be the latest international star contemplating a move to MLS?

According to a report in French outlet Telefoot, Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes said a move stateside by the Real Madrid star and Portugal captain may be possible when his newly signed contract at the Santiago Bernabeu is up in 2018.

"After that, perhaps he will go to the United States. Only God knows what will happen," Mendes said in the report.

Mendes indicated the 29-year-old Ronaldo could follow in the footsteps of England captain Steven Gerrard, who announced Saturday that he’s headed to MLS at the end of Liverpool's season this summer.

The agent also refuted rumors that Ronaldo, who made a $132-million move from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009, would sign with French club Paris Saint-Germain after the Real Madrid deal is up

He is a mega star that likes the lime light and his personal image is almost as important as his soccer career. It sounds crazy, but I could see him doing this to become an even bigger icon. Maybe I am wrong, but doesn't sound too crazy. If he leaves Madrid, what else does he have to prove at club level anyways?

When he leaves Madrid he will be in his late 30s. All these stars are leaving to get one final paycheck. What we need is a guy in his prime to go to the MLS for it to be considered relevant. Not sure when that will happen.

I think Ronaldo's contract is through 33 years old? Also, he doesn't seem to be slowing down. I like Messi better, but it seems quite plausible that Ronaldo's prime will be longer even though he is 2 years older

Im pretty sure he will most likely stay with the club. Theres no incentive to leave to the MLS if he's in his prime and winning like right now. Things can change obviously, but I think Ronaldo is just teasing at this point. Ill believe it when i see it.

And even then it's all talk until a new deal is signed.

The transfer vultures can't even accurately report on who is going where this month. Now we're supposed to believe them regarding a transfer years in the future?

Anyone have any reason why the Red Bulls would fire Mike Petke? He gave them a shield and was one game from the cup, no sense to me at all.

Official statement from the team sheds no light on why they fired him.

The New York Red Bulls announced on Wednesday that Mike Petke will not return as the club's head coach in 2015. Petke served as the head coach for the past two seasons.

"On behalf of the New York Red Bulls, I want to thank Mike for his service to the club these past two seasons as head coach," said Sporting Director Ali Curtis. "Mike will always be an important member of the Red Bull family."

Something just doesn't seem right. It is a shame though, I just became a huge fan this year, and I really liked the coach. As long as they win next year, all will be forgiven.

Thank god NYCFC is having such a terrible time right now with their situation, it would be a time like this that I could see fans on the fence jump to the other side.

MLS to expand playoff field to 12 in 2015

Under the current system, the fourth- and fifth-place finishers in each conference meet in a one-game playoff that sends the winner to face the top seed. Starting next season, the third-place team in each conference will host the sixth seed in one single-elimination game while No. 4 hosts No. 5 in the other. The four conference semifinalists then will be reseeded to ensure the first-place finisher faces off against the lowest-ranked knockout round survivor. The bracket will look like the one used in the NFL since 1990.

The Eastern and Western conference semifinals and finals will remain as two-game series featuring the away-goals tiebreaker. The MLS Cup final will remain a single match.

Next season’s 60 percent MLS playoff qualification rate (and the 50 percent rate expected in 2020) compares to 53.3 percent in the NBA and NHL, 37.5 percent in the NFL and 33.3 percent in Major League Baseball.

RSL vs NYCFC on May 23rd, the second coming of Kreis. Can't even begin to describe how emotional that game will be. Looking forward to it very much.
