Looks like TFC is telling Gilberto to stay home until he is sold/traded.
I wish MLS could just announce a 4th DP spot, so we could at least invite him to camp. I still feel like we'll need him at the start of the season.
________
TFC also set to introduce a new player.

Re: Official Toronto FC Thread
Really sad to see Gilberto on his way out, one of my favourite players last year.
He had European aspirations when he came here, but it sounds like he is headed to Mexico. We are going to be in trouble if Giovinco doesn't show up at the beginning of the season.

Just came here to post this. Serie A is in a financial mess (AC Milan just sold their team bus to save money) and Juventus is looking to perhaps save money on the remainder of Seba's contract. What a coup for TFC if they get him for the beginning of the season without paying a transfer fee.
lol Juventus is finacionally fine, they sold Giovinco because he barely plays and they have better younger players who need playing time.
Milan are becoming a joke, the team owner is worth like 8 billion but doesn't want to spend (likely looking to sell).
Every other top serie a club has been spending

Juve is under considerable debt, much like the rest of the Serie A. There is a reason the league has fallen in the last decade from likely being the top league in the world before that. Here is a good article on Juve, which should shed some light on the team, Serie A, and their struggles:

lol that article tho... yet vidal is still with juventus despite the fact that united offered near 50 million, and they spend close to 40 million on 2 very young players.
A lot of top clubs are in debt, united over 500 million, multiple top clubs are like barca real arsenal.
Yes serie a use to have a ridiculous amount of stars but thats because they were spending with no regard and it dug themselves into a hole. They are spending wisely and focusing on the financial side, look up the new Juventus Adidas deal.
If that article is your source for serie a... espn? lmfao than ok

Actually I don't know if any other team other than Barca is in debt. The new UEFA regulations will penalize teams for going into debt and buying players. Hence the 2 transfer ban for Barcelona.
With that said the reason Serie A is lacking behind is that there is no longer enough money in the league. Most advertising and TV money is going to EPL and La Liga and Serie A teams have less money to buy good talent and compete with the likes of Chelsea and Real. Nothing much else other than that. If Serie A can market it's games better to a worldwide audience than I'm sure they would be making more money and have better quality on the field.

Not sure why you're instigating here. This isn't a slight against Serie A; I'm a Serie A fan, a Juventino, and have been defending the league for what seems like my entire adult life. Yet, the reality of the situation is that Serie A has been hit hard financially, and it hurts every team - top down. The TV revenue is not there, and frankly, attendance is not very good across the league either. That, coupled with FIFA's new rules, does not allow them to bring in the star-studded lineups of the past. This leads to prime players leaving the clubs. And then you have a cycle of no prime players coming to the league, dwindling international audience, exit of home-grown youngsters primed for the bigtime (Pogba likely this summer), and back to no prime players. The league needs to raise revenues as a whole in order to level itself with the EPL and La Liga like in the late 90s.
By the way, ESPN FC is a pretty good read if you're a soccer fan. Don't ignore it just because it's american.

I hope TFC keeps Gilberto, but I think ML$$$E can find a better fit if a 4th DP spot is added. I liked Gilberto, but he didn't speak a lick of English, and he's not a superstar, so idk how that worked. Also, he never really seemed like a DP, just another marginal MLS striker.

im insinuating that the financial crisis statement you made was overboard, then you make it seem as if juventus is desperate to offload gio, if there was a crisis a team like sampdoria would't of payed 12 million for muriel in the winter, and take on eto'o's large wages, teams are spending.
Pogba is likely to leave but only because he could break records with his transfer fee, if juve were to invest it back into the club it would make them better. And a player like pogba there is a good chance no one in the bpl could of held onto him past a few mroe years either.
I understand that revenues need to increase and attendance isn't very good either.

My bad if I Implied that Juve is desperate to get rid of Giovinco. Just said that it makes sense for them to let him go if he is no longer in their plans due to the financial environment of the Serie A.
And I hope you're right with the money going back into the roster off the Pogba deal, but there is a reason Conte left.
Back to TFC, seems like they have some work to do to fill the roster. We are not looking good right now. No Jackson in training camp either.

TFC acquires Zavaleta from the Sounders for a 2nd rder. Good to see another warm body on the backline but no idea about his quality.

He's a bit of a project, but at least TFC is looking at the right positions.

yea absolutely, there is no financial "crisis" in regards to Juve.
If they were desperate to get rid of Giovinco it is because they don't need him and more so because his contract is ending this summer...his agent has been saying for a year that they will not renew. It'd make sense for them to sell him now so they can make any type of profit off him.
anyway, I'm a lifelong metrostars/red bull fan but please welcome me aboard the TFC wagon as long as Super Seba is on the team. I didn't do this when Montreal had former Juve player Di Vaio and Nesta the legend...i'm no whore. Giovinco to the MLS is just the most fascinating thing to ever happen to this league.

ya giovinco should be the best player in the league, he was fantastic before joining juventus. The play style of juve did not suit his game.

Not often.
It's more maddening to me that this is a story at all. Vanney shouldn't be creating stories on day one.

The only reason I could think of would to be to increase popularity, but they already did that with the signings of Altidoe, Giovinco, and Perquis.
Should have just given it to Bradley and let Caldwell man up and pass the torch on to the younger generation.

If they were going to change the captaincy, they should have done it before start of training camp. Caldwell should remain captain at this point. I also hope signing Vanney's nephew was done for the right reasons.
