Again forgive my ignorance. I only started following the TFC after Sid (Of "Tim and Sid") said during last offseason that Bradley was the real deal.

What's the big deal about captaincy? Is there any real weight to the position, or is it like basketball merely a formality except you get a fancy band around your arm.

I thought Jackson played LM. He definitely had the athleticsm but the awareness definitely wasn't there. I think Dominic Oduro played on the wings too. I didn't mind him, though he had the tendency to go 1 on 1 early in the season. I think we could use an upgrade there but its not a pressing concern.

Jackson could fit if he just smartened up a bit. Oduro needs to go to the bench. Worst first touch in all of MLS. Shame really, because he is probably the fastest guy in the league as well. TFC is looking for a winger - if they find one then we will see. Still, that all depends on the formation they roll out:

Well count your blessings, he's been traded to MTL for allocation money.

It means a lot in soccer, and carries a lot of tradition. The captain isn't always the best player on the pitch, it's earned through years of service and dedication to the club and teammates. For example, Xavi and Iniesta are higher in the pecking order to wear the armband than Messi. There are also lots of unwritten rules about who gets to wear it in different countries. In Serie A, the captain should generally be Italian.

It's just one of those things that means a lot in soccer.

To IMFC. His 7th team now I think.

Gilberto deal sounds about done as well. He's going back to Brazil.

Another signing for TFC

Toronto FC have dipped into the European market once again, as the Reds have signed veteran French midfielder Benoit Cheyrou.

As is, the formation that best fits our lineup - as it looks to me:

------------------Bendik------------------
--Bloom--Caldwell--Perquie--Morrow--
-----------Bradley----Cheyrou---------
Jackson-------Giovinco----------Osorio
-----------------Altidore-----------------

Still think we need to replace Bloom at LB. Probably would want another winger and another Forward/AM off the bench (A Luis Silva). Of course, if we don't get Giovinco here before the season begins, we are in trouble.

Sorry I've been away, looks like it's confirmed that Giovinco will arrive in February for the start of the season.

I really don't like Caldwell being so attached to the captaincy. If he was in Toronto for more than 2 years I would understand. But, he is a washed up Scottish defender. It seems like he just wants it for the title. Bradley clearly runs the team, he might as well just pass it on to him. The way he is getting all emotional about it, you would think he has been the captain since 2007.

I don't think its that serious. He was just asked a question and answered it like he should. Would you be dissapointed if someone took away a title you've had since you were 15? Sure, would you pout, not if you were being paid well and it went to someone who was equally if not more qualified.

I think its a non issue. I don't think Caldwell will pout or give anything less than his best, with or without the arm band.

I agree with you that Caldwell will give 100% with or without the band, but I still don't think it should be taken away from him.

Even if Bradley is the true leader now, he can wait until Caldwell retires to take the band. That's how true leaders should act.

Who the eff is Findley?

After I post this I will be googling him, so if anyone is going to answer throw up some info that isn't a quick google search away. Anybody got any anecdotal info or opinions on the guy?

He was really good in the MLS some years ago, making the U.S. national team for the 2010 World Cup where he famously got a yellow card after the ball hit him in the face...lol
I don't know much about him the past few seasons...I know his move to England didn't work out so much so he's back in the MLS.
but he was a very quick little guy who could score and get himself into dangerous positions. I feel like he is past his best even though he's only 29, but this move to TFC can definitely revive his career a bit. I'm excited for him to be on the team with Altidore and Giovinco up front.

Well said. He's best is clearly past him as he hasn't played for the US in four years.

But he is a proven scorer in MLS, and with Altidore likely receiving most of the attention from defenders up front, he could easily rejuvenate his career.

I think the players around him will really make him look better than he is.

Not a fan. The middle is too crowded.
