I can't believe Danny Dichio is retiring tomorrow....

I'm not happy about it.

According to the Globe, the announcement of De Guzman happens tomorrow. So I guess Dichio's retirement is helping this along.

According to The Score, the press conference has nothing to do with De Guzman

Danny Dichio appears to have played his final game for Toronto FC.

The 34-year-old will announce his retirement at a press conference on Wednesday morning. Contrary to other reports this press conference is not to introduce Julian De Guzman. Sources close to De Guzman informed me today that the Canadian international will definitely not be introduced at that press conference.

Dichio, who played the final 20 minutes in Saturday's loss to Colorado, is expected to take up a coaching job at BMO Field with immediate effect.

At some point on Wednesday the club is hopeful of securing the deal for Julian De Guzman. After landing in the country on Sunday night, Julian De Guzman and his representatives spent Monday putting the finishing touches on a deal that will see him play for Toronto FC for the remainder of this season and the following three seasons after that.

Although the possibility of a player's opt-out clause was discussed, in the end it was left out of the contract that will see him become just the second designated player in the league with 3+ years guaranteed. (David Beckham is the first).

De Guzman's deal was approved by MLSE and the only thing that stood in the way after Monday was approval from the league and the need for Mo Johnston to free cap space to allow the 28-year-old to join the squad immediately.

As of Tuesday afternoon the league had still not give their approval on the contract.

As a soccer fan in Canada, I never got to experience the drama around the sport properly until recently.

This Danny retirement has a bad stench to it. The whole front office of this team has a stench to it.

I agree, he was clearly forced out and to not let him retire after one final home game is sickening.

You can tell it was hard for him, when he said "I will sit down with the kids, explain why I had to do this. Then ill let them call me every name in the book and hopefully when they are older, they will realize why as a man I had to do this."

This does not sound like a guy who was ready to retire to me. This guy is an icon for our FC and I can't be happier that I got to see him embrace us and us embrace him from the beginning. I cant believe they would treat him this way.

May 12, at 23:13 this man made history. I hope in 20 years my kids ll lead his chant at the 24th minute.

OH, and screw Mo.

Toronto FC has called a press conference for Friday afternoon at BMO Field when it is expected they will announce the signing of Canadian international Julian de Guzman as the club’s first designated player.

The Canadian midfielder, who spent the last four years with Deportivo la Coruna, has been out of contract since the end of the 2008-09 Spanish league season.

Details of the deal haven’t been released, but a source told CBCSports.ca earlier this week that de Guzman, a 28-year-old native of Scarborough, Ont., has agreed to terms on a contract that ties him to the club through the 2012 Major League Soccer season.

Danny is a hero, he not only gave us our first goal but he's also getting us de Guzman.

I dont know how much I like this signing. He will be by far the best footballer on the team, no questions about that. However, I don't know how I feel about a DM as our DP. Quality offensive players destroy this league, and I think we should have looked in South America for a striker or an attacking midfielder who could dominate this league.

Also I guess this spells the end for Robbo.

Move to T.O then

Great game today.... TFC TFC TFC!

I am upset that that the '''Danny Dichio" chant has dropped the
"He aint got no air...and we dont care..danny dichio" part of the chant is gone.

Also I added "He spins fat wax....sign him to the max...danny dichio"
It caught on well.

What a disappointment. TFC can't buy a goal on the road. They had Galaxy on their heels in the first ten minutes of the second half, if Gerba just finished that one shot of the cross bar it might be a different story.
