I am not a DC United fan but it is always a good day when LA or New York are eliminated. Has Marquez ever not gotten a red card in a playoff game for New York?

Re: The Official Major League Soccer Thread
I was really hoping Houston wouldn't make the MLS Cup.
Though if they win as the Eastern Champion maybe MLS will finally take not how stupid that sounds and go with one table.

Beckham to leave Galaxy after MLS Cup
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/s ... le5455372/
Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham announced Monday that Saturday’s MLS Cup final against the Houston Dynamo will be his final game for the three-time Major League Soccer champions.
The former England captain has played six seasons in Southern California, raising the profile of the league around the world, and leading the team to the championship – his first in North America – last year. Beckham had recently been linked with a move to the Australian A-League, although his representatives shot that notion down last Friday, saying their client had “absolutely no plans” of playing Down Under.
“I’ve had an incredibly special time playing for the L.A. Galaxy, however, I wanted to experience one last challenge before the end of my playing career,” Beckham said in a team-issued statement. “I don’t see this as the end of my relationship with the league as my ambition is to be part of the ownership structure in the future.”
Beckham moved to MLS from Real Madrid in 2007, taking advantage of the newly created designated player rule – dubbed “the Beckham rule” for its ability to pay marquee players outside of the league’s rigid salary-cap structure. The Galaxy were woeful for the former Manchester United man’s first two years, failing to even make the playoffs, before a restructuring in the front-office and coaching departments transformed them into one of the league’s flagship franchises. The arrival of Beckham in MLS has coincided with a period of unparalleled growth for both the Galaxy and the league, which is approaching the end of its 17th season. Seven expansion teams – the Montreal Impact, Portland Timbers, Vancouver Whitecaps, Philadelphia Union, Seattle Sounders, San Jose Earthquakes and Toronto FC – have debuted since 2007, while 15 of the league’s 19 teams now play in soccer-specific stadiums, up from five prior to 2007. Attendance at those stadiums is at unprecedented highs with an average of 18,807 fans attending games during the 2012 MLS regular season and nearly 22,000 fans turning out for postseason contests. On top of that, exposure and recognition of the Galaxy and MLS are at new highs, with the league maintaining U.S. television broadcast deals with ESPN, NBC Sports and Univision while the Galaxy reached a 10-year broadcast deal with Time Warner Cable Sports in November 2011 that is the most lucrative in MLS history. The league is in the second year of a six-year deal with TSN in Canada.

MLS CUP THIS WEEKEND!
Even if you don't normally watch MLS soccer, tune in this weekend to watch the final.
I think you'll be surprised how much the level of soccer has improved.

Congratulations to L.A.
It was an exciting Finals to watch. I wonder who they will bring in to replace Beckham next season?

The MLS needs a new star. I just cant think of one that would want to come to the league.

http://www.soccerbyives.net/2012/12/sou ... oster.html
RSL is set to send Jamison Olave and Fabian Espindola to New York Red Bulls and Will Johnson to the Timbers.
Olave and Espindola I expected, but I'm in shock that they just sent Will Johnson. im gonna miss him.

Re: The Official Major League Soccer Thread
It looks like we're going to see a huge influx of designated players into MLS, based on how many players were dumped.
I still have no idea what the Timbers are doing. They seem to enjoy dumping players who help them (Perkins, Smith, Kimura) and holding onto overpaid garbage (Boyd and Chara).
edfmx, what can you tell me about Johnson?

Re: The Official Major League Soccer Thread
I absolutely love WIll Johnson. He's a work horse who can play any position in the midfield, RSL even had him play LB in a couple CCL games back in when we made a run at the championship. The guy is all heart and hustle. He's fast, a good play maker, he helped create a lot of goals at RSL. His defense is excellent, which is why he played in the back a couple games when our guys were injured, he's a pesky defender and doesn't give up on balls.
RSL knew they had to get rid of him because of their salary issue and let Johnson pick where he wanted to go. He said he's wanted to play at Jeld Wen ever since the first time we played the Timbers there. I'm glad RSL gave him that choice, he was a great community guy down here and deserves to play wherever he wants.
Portland got a great player and person in this deal, I wish him the best.

Red Bulls trade Le Toux back to Philadephia for Martinez
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2 ... a-martinez
Sébastien Le Toux is heading back home.
The New York Red Bulls on Thursday announced they have traded the former Philadelphia icon and all-time leading scorer back to the Union in exchange for Costa Rican forward Josué Martínez and allocation money.
Le Toux was out of contract with the Red Bulls but, according to a report on Soccer By Ives earlier in the day, re-signed with the Red Bulls only to be traded hours later to the team where he made his name in MLS.
“We are happy to welcome Sébastien back to the club,” Union manager John Hackworth said in a statement. “His determination and heart are a perfect fit for the mentality of this team.”
The 28-year-old Frenchman scored 25 goals and registered 20 assists over the 2010 and 2011 seasons with Philadelphia, only to be traded to Vancouver before the 2012 season, the last year on his MLS contract at the time.
But he only netted four goals in 19 matches with the Whitecaps and in July 2012 he was shipped out to New York, where he also struggled to produce goals with a single tally in 14 matches.
