Prob a lot shorter flight
Don't know where you are, but Porter might fly near you and they land a 20 minute walk from BMO field.

Deal not yet done. Roma is trying to raise the price. Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga have entered the picture.

The fact that TFC is competing with those 2 teams for the same player is out of this world.

Analysts saying trade. I hope we can use our Allocation money to pay down his salary. Nelsen likes to play with two DMs and a midfield of Bradley and Laba will be a black hole for opposing players. No one is getting past that.
Couple that with the fact that they are both amazing passers - Bradley will likely be the best passer in the MLS - and you have yourself a pretty solid midfield.
A midfield of Hall and Bradley on the other hand is ....

Wow. Just wow. So you have Defoe up top, and you add Gilberto, Michael Bradley and DeRo plus an experienced MLS defender in Justin Morrow. Tim Leiweke means business. TFC is not only a playoff team now, their a contender.

Just wondering. What would happen if Toronto wins MLS, would they qualify for CONCACAF Champions League via MLS or would they still have to win the Canadian Championship?

They'll still have to go through the Canadian seed. They just take the next American team in line.

Been hearing a lot about TFC lately. Sounds like they've been big players in the market lately. Nice.
...using basketball analogies, TFC adding Bradley and Dafoe is the equivalence of the Raptors adding....?
(Sorry for the noob question - just really curious

On the radio today, they were compared to the Miami Heat.
Soccer isn't so cut and dry, but Bradley is one of the best - if not the best - American players in the world, at the prime of his career. He is only 26 years old.
Defoe is a veteran striker known for scoring goals and could have a spot on England's world cup team.
They are both easily two of the top ten players in the league.
If the team gels, and there are no hiccups, they just became contenders.

$100 Million sure sounds like a lot, but I agree with MLSE they needed to do something to save the club.
Another losing season and everyone would have walked. This investment helps them secure it's franchise, losing money now means more money in the future.
Can't wait to see how they all look on the field. Expectations are suddenly very high for this year.

Agreed.
Let's not forget that things changed when Bell and Rogers bought in. These two don't care about turning a profit out of Toronto FC. They need Toronto FC to drive sales to their main business through exclusive content and ratings. Between them, they have 5 sports channels. You can't run a whole summer with baseball. Rogers and Bell will be invested in the MLS, and will need the league to perform.
This should prove that this ownership is willing to spend money to win, or at least create a winning team. The DP rule allowed them to operate outside of the salary cap environment, and Rogers and Bell just blew $100 million like it meant nothing to them - on Soccer and the MLS nonetheless.

Re: Official Toronto FC Thread
Well said.
TSN especially needs summer content, and since they currently own the rights to MLS they really need the whole league to step up. Best way to get everyone to spend is to get the ball rolling.
This honestly could be the start of all MLS teams spending a lot more in the future.
I wonder how TFC games will be split this season between the two networks, 50/50 I assume, but Sportsnet does have a lot of baseball to worry about.

CBA negotiations coming up in 2015. We could very well see the salary cap move up, by at least another million. That would be huge in allowing for 1)younger players on non DP deals from South America and 2)depth which is sorely needed for the MLS to take the next step.

It makes sense to put a lot of money into these guys. They are the only MLSE product with truly global reach. This team has the potential to destroys MLS and compete in champions league. This paired with the Academy creates a system where you develop talent in the Americas and act as a feeder to bigger clubs.
Those transfer fees are no joke and Toronto is actually a DESTINATION for lots of players because of its diversity and deep roots to countries around the world.
This is a very good thing.

I haven't even thought about Champions League yet, we should easily get through the Canadian Championship, and I think we have a very good shot at going deep into Champions League.
We finally have the experience to deal with the teams in Mexico.

I wouldn't go so far. Red Bulls, KC, Portland, Salt Lake, Seattle, and the Galaxy all have very good teams. We should hopefully join that list. Philly also has a billionaire owner whom I believe will start spending money on that team and turn them around.
We still have a relatively weak/inexperienced back line, and very little on the wings. Both areas for improvement, which we will likely address if we look to trade Laba.
I'm not sure how competitive this makes us against the top Mexican sides. MLS teams simply don't have the depth to consistently compete at that level due to the salary cap. Though I'm sure we will win the Canadian seed as the Limpact and Shitecaps have done nothing so far to further their teams.
