Women's Basketball Podcasts

Post#1 » by Green Chile » Mon Dec 16, 2024 10:42 pm

Just wondering if you guys have found some good ones you like.

I find them to be quite refreshing. With so much of the discourse/media surrounding the game being a lot noise that has nothing to do with the game, it's nice to listen to people that just know and love women's basketball.

It's also a growing space over the last year or so. Some of these only started in the last few months. The podcast world is scrambling to catch up with growing interest in women's basketball.

My favorites so far

1. Her Hoop Stats.
It's a podcast network, and they have a lot of great contributors and shows. My absolute favorite is anything involving Christy Winters Scott. Probably my favorite voice in the women's game. So full of positive energy. She does a weekly one during the WNBA season with Debbie Antonelli (also awesome, of course). Antonelli is a legend and does Fever games along with a ton of college games. Winters Scott does the Mystics and a lot of college stuff. You really can't beat those two together. Winters Scott just started "In the Paint" by herself for the college season. Latest episode was with Andraya Carter, also a fantastic voice in WBB (WNBA Countdown is the best basketball show after Inside the NBA, IMO).

2. The Athletic
A lot of contributors, but Sabreena Merchant really stands out. Always really good.

3. Locked On
They've been at this a while. A part of "The Next" which has been covering women's hoops for a long time. The podcasts are great, and they do them 6 days week. The commercials can be a bit much, though.

4. Chicago Sky Central
This one is team specific, but I just love what these guys have done. They started this podcast about 3 years ago. They do other Chicago sports podcasts, but considering how little attention was paid to women's basketball 3 years ago by most of us dudes, it's really impressive that they were at this long before a lot of people cared.
What I really love about it is that it brings the same fan energy that you see in other sports. They love their team and are super critical of it too. The way fans do in other sports

5. The Ringer WNBA Show
Of course the Ringer got involved.
But they do a great job. Seerat Sohi hosts.
They only started a few months ago, but whether you like Bill or not, when the Ringer starts a podcast they tend to do it well. This is no exception.

6. Queens of the Court
Yes this is Swoopes. She's said some controversial things. Some misinterpreted and overblown, but I understand she's said them and it's not a good look. I don't agree with some of what she's said, and I don't pretend to know her intent. If anybody is interested in some other podcasts about women's basketball, I can point you in a lot of great directions, if you're interested.
Outside of some controversial sentences from Swoopes, this is a great podcast. Her and Jordin Robinson love the W and are fantastic together.

7. 28.5 Women's Basketball
This one just started and has only done 11 episodes. Sydney Storey and Becca Goodman.
One played for UT, the other played for ND. I can't remember which, and I have no idea what 28.5 means.
But they know their stuff, and are a great listen.
Perfect example of people figuring out this space needs more good content.

Good list Green Chile!

I listen to Herhoops stats, locked on, & the ringer wnba show.

None stick out to me yet to be my fave, but they're the three i listen to here and there.

The Dunker Spot (Neekias Duncan and Steve Jones Jr) has been making WNBA part of its content for a few years now. During the NBA season, they still give updates on anything W related. During the WNBA season, it's the whole podcast, with small NBA-related news updates.

I love Seerat Sohi doing anything. And yes to Sabreena Merchant on the Athletic. Great list, OP.

I finally got around to giving them a listen. Thank you. Fantastic recommendation.

Insanely knowledgeable, and I love their chemistry. Cliche, but if comes off as 2 great friends just talking ball. Giving each other hell, and disagreeing at times.

Love that they're giving Unrivaled some serious coverage too.
