Re: 2025 Draft Lottery
yes, i think you are right. wnba is on the way up, but college has more eyeballs and popularity currently. women's college is where men's college used to be, the great players stay in college for a few years building up their brand/popularity, etc and bring that to the league (bringing their fans as well possibly).

Re: 2025 Draft Lottery
I think she has until Friday, but there is a lot of speculation that Flau'jae could declare for the draft, which would be very interesting.
She's one of her few players making so much money outside of NIL that the low W rookie pay doesn't matter.
She'd be a fantastic choice for Seattle, and imo, would have LA kicking themselves for trading that pick.

Re: 2025 Draft Lottery
Also would be a very smart move for Flau'jae (and why I think Miles is taking a risk).
Going to an organization with great ownership and facilities at #2? How often does that happen?
Only 2 other teams have good facilities (PHX and Vegas) and they basically don't keep 1st round picks. Most lottery teams have bad ownership, horrible facilities, and a history of screwing high draft picks.
Taking this chance to go to Seattle at #2 would be a really smart move, imo.

Re: 2025 Draft Lottery
Now I've got my hopes up I'm going to be so devastated if this doesn't happen.
Can you even imagine a better scenario for a young scoring guard?
Ultimate professionals to learn from with Nneka and Skyler. Fantastic young players in Ezi and Gabby (Houston and Nika too when they get back).
And the real beauty, this team needs one thing, and it's exactly what Flau'jae does. Just go get buckets!

Re: 2025 Draft Lottery
One of the many great things about women's basketball. When the depression of no more college games sets in, you realize the Draft is in one week and the season starts in 5.
What do y'all think Seattle does?
Malonga? If there's no clear fit, may as well swing for the fences.
I almost wonder if Kiki might have played her way back up to #2. At least one year developing with Nneka would be great.
Of course, Citron is an option. She's kind of a good fit with anybody.

Re: 2025 Draft Lottery
Watching more Malonga film, it has to be her.
I love Citron, and all these players going in the 1st round. But they have to take Malonga. And frankly, I think they might have had that in mind when they traded for the pick, and the Miles decision may not have mattered to them.
Malonga and Ezi might be a weird short term fit, but when you can put this kind of talent together, fit doesn't matter. And if any team is comfortable drafting international bigs, it's Seattle.

Pretty in depth breakdown of the top 19 propsects (according to The Next).
They are really high on the French kids. Malonga at #2, Juste Jocyte at #5, and Sikva at #12.
Also high on the South Carolina kids with Paopao at #4 and Feagin at #8. Also Bree Hall at #17.
I'm not smart enough to know if they are right or wrong, but they differ quite a bit from most mock drafts.

Re: 2025 Draft Lottery
I hope that Jocyte, who's from my country, will get drafted to a good organization that will give her some minutes and development opportunity. Would really hate it if she was buried on the bench, after she just came back from a rather long hiatus due to injury.

As long as this board agrees that Matas Buzelis will be the 2nd best Chicago Bull ever, we'll all get along just fine.

Re: 2025 Draft Lottery
I didn't even realize that the draft is tomorrow. The WNBA is horrible at marketing.
Really Phee and Stewie need to really be made advisors or something to the commissioner because they know how to do this way better

Re: 2025 Draft Lottery
It feels fairly likely that the draft starts Paige and Malonga. Then probably Citron
After that, all bets are off and nothing would surprise. Players 4 through about 15 or so could go in any order.
I still think this draft class is incredibly underrated. If Paige and Malonga hit, the top end will be as good as any draft.
And then, after them, you've got about 15+ players with a good shot to stick in the league.
Mystics will be fascinating. It's hard to trust them, but they zigged while the rest of the league zagged (Sun too, but they didn't have a choice). Every other team gave away draft picks for 1-year rentals. Even other young teams with no real shot to compete this year (nor the facilities to attract FA's).
If the Mystics hit on this, they'll be set up really well.

Re: 2025 Draft Lottery
Paige just signed a 3 year deal with Unrivaled which exceeds what she would make in her entire 4 year contract as a member of the Wings.

Re: 2025 Draft Lottery
Chicago now has picks 10 and 11 tonight.
Sky gave the Lynx it's 2026 1st round pick. Lynx already owned a swap on that pick.
Sky keep the Mercury pick that has a swap with the Sun pick.
Seems like a good trade for both sides. Draft is deep so the Sky could end up with some role players if they hit.
Not hard to imagine them getting a solid back-up PG in Amoore or HVL, and solid scorer like Paopao or Aziah James.

That's the 2nd year in the row where the sparks were the worst team in the wnba & they still didn't get the no.1 pick
