It's really something. We're talking about an SRS drop of 21.6 on a team that isn't having a youth movement. They may get better over the course of the year, but I really think they thought that by acquiring Tina Charles they'd at least be decent, and that's not how it worked out.

It's good to specifically praise the long-time franchise trio of Alyssa Thomas, DeWanna Bonner & Brionna Jones and they deserve it, and we should acknowledge that Charles is 36...but something that's struck me long before this is that Charles seems to have gotten extremely overrated beginning in her time in college.

Charles' is a volume post-scorer whose career TS% is 50.4 in the regular season and 47.3% in the playoffs. In general, that's someone I don't want being a volume post-scorer, and yet we're talking about someone who actually got named WNBA MVP. That's an incredible disconnect.

I would say this part of a general thing in the WNBA in the 2010s to the present where the consensus of the league didn't seem to internalize the issues the NBA was recognizing with volume post-scoring. Even if you do it efficiently, if you're not doing it as a great playmaker, you're almost certainly considerably less valuable than your volume totals suggest. And if you're doing it inefficiently, well, really not good.

Now I'm not saying Charles has had a completely ineffective WNBA career, but I don't she should've ever been talked about among the most valuable players in the game.

I don't think they got Charles to be good, I think it's more of a save face scenario

They knew they were gonna take a nose dive this year, and they don't have their pick, but they still need to sell tickets (cause they're not paired with an NBA team), so sign Tina Charles, who did play in CT 10 years ago but more importantly played for UConn. That still sells up here

I guess they didn't get any good offers for Mabrey, so they're hoping at the deadline someone comes in with something too, and then once they trade her and Charles leaves in the offseason, they can fully commit to a youth movement since they'll have their pick next year.

Jonquel's obviously a superstar, but I really think Leonie is an incredible player that may be the key to making New York a dynasty. You expect that a super-team is short on depth, you don't expect that secretly they've acquired star talent others missed.

It's not just that she was overlooked, but they also have her on a cheap rookie contract and under team control for three more years after this year.
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Yesterday I was lying; today I'm telling the truth.

Wings trade NaLyssa Smith to the Aces for a 2027 1st round pick.

Again, as the Aces make terrible trade after terrible trade, they have no GM.
A few months ago, the Fever gave the Wings a 1st to unload NaLyssa.

If you think this trade looks horrible now, just imagine when A'ja leaves in a few months and the Aces end up in the lottery for the loaded 2027 draft.

One thing Vegas did get right though is Aaliyah Nye. Holy crap she's good.

You'd think they'd want to try doing that whole "drafting players" thing some more.

Well, the Fever did get Sophie Cunningham with that trade ... but yeah Smith for the Aces first rounder strikes me as an obviously bad deal.

I actually do kind of think NaLyssa could be a good fit for the Aces. They don't need her to score. She's got size, athleticism and can rebound. There's always the "let's put her in a locker room with A'ja and see if that helps her development" factor.

But the value just seems so off.

They've waived Liz Kitley and TIffany Mitchell (loved Kitley at VT, so I hate that but she hasn't shown much yet).

So, it looks like they've got another move coming up.
If they sign DeWanna Bonner or Laticia Amihere (if the Valks let her go again), I can start to see the plan.

Aww ****, here it comes. The GSV roster cuts bloodbath has begun.

Julie Vanloo has been waived.

Hopefully, it means Chen stays. And somebody is about to get a hell of a back up PG.

Or in Chicago's case, a hell of a starting PG, but they can't because of the guaranteed contracts for Banham and MoJeff.

WOW BABY!!!!!!

Valkyries waive Julie Vanloo, Chloe Bibby, & Bree Hall. Keeping LA and Kaitlyn Chen. This blindsided everyone about JVL.

I am shocked, but I see the Chen vision.

CC has been ruled out for tonight's CC Final. With the winning team splitting $500,000, I'd expect a feisty game.

It’s your Cup championship!

Fever can’t shoot and have no Clark.
Lynx are getting mauled on the boards and keep turning it over.

Not exactly the game I was hoping for.
