The Sky were a steaming pile of hot garbage on AND off the court today. Not impressed with their decision to **** on the anthem.

Re: 2025 WNBA Regular Season Discussion Thread
All the worry all off-season about the Mercury's depth.......blah, blah, blah.......they brought in AT and Sabally and that's all that matters.
Boy you saw it last night. AT is impossible to keep out of the paint. Storm tried Gabby, Nneka, AC, Ezi, didn't matter. Sabally couldn't miss in the 1st half.
Westbeld (Maddy's older sister) looks like a good get. 6'3" smart player, can shoot. Alex Held looked good.
This team looked dominant even without Kah or Mack.
Oh dear. AT surrounded by shooters, especially one like Sabally. This team is going to be a problem.
Not unexpected, but my Storm didn't look so hot on offense. Hopefully, they can get better, but they do look great defensively. Aggressive and long.
Malonga is long and fast, but last night it was apparent that she is a skinny 19 year old. She can be great, but obviously it's going to take some time.

They were all strips down low as the offensive player was bringing the ball up to shoot. Could have easily been called steals instead of blocks, but I don't think the number is inaccurate.
the scenario you described is a steal. It’s always been a steal. Wonder if the players were charged with a missed shot attempt as well (it would have to be for it to be legit)
Just to conclude, it’s inaccurate and it’s not a great area. If I strip you on you way up at your waist, it’s always been called a steal. It did this a lot playing, it was never called a block.

Agree, the Indy scorekeeper had a strange interpretation of those plays. While we are on the topic of strips, I have always wondered why a player who strips an opponent of the ball on the drive, so that the ball rebounds off the attacking player's leg and rolls out of bounds, thereby costing the attacking team a possession, is not credited with a steal. I mean, the other team had the ball, you made a play to remove the ball from the other team's possession, and now your team has the ball. That's what steals are, taking the ball away from the opposing team.

Re: 2025 WNBA Regular Season Discussion Thread
Sounds like some people still got issues with Clark; the easiest solution is let her be your antagonist. Yes, it will be more difficult this season opposed to last as she and the Fever are improved. You still got the Liberty, LInx and Aces etc..to champion if Schadenfreude is your game.
Had a cousin who hated Jordan back in the day; would become a Knick, Pacer or whoever fan just to root against him. As long as it remains related to sport i got no issues with it and feel its apart of the experience.
Clark has gone above and beyond in terms of doing and saying all the right things so far. Ill give you the complaining and flopping; both are unattractive attributes in athletics; outside of that i think she is one of the best ambassadors of a sport that i have ever seen.

Re: 2025 WNBA Regular Season Discussion Thread
I made some dumb predictions in the Predictions thread.
I just want it known that I predicted the Mystics to make the Playoffs.
Who knows if it happens, but they are 2-0 on May 18th. Last year, they won their first game on June 11th.
Youngest team in the W, and the kids look so good. The Sonia disrespect this off-season was ridiculous. Limited upside was the narrative. But how the hell does a player that does everything well have limited upside? Kiki took saw her draft stock sink too, but damn she's really good.
And speaking of young players, Jade Melbourne seems to be taking a major step forward. She's always been good at getting down hill, but seems to be improving as a shooter and passer. She's 21.
Sykes is healthy and doing her thing. Austin and Edwards still getting healthy. Dolson and Engstler 2 of the best shooting bigs in the league.
Love what they have cooking. And today, they got punched in the mouth and looked horrible for the 1st 8 minutes or so. But they battled back. Sort of like last year when they started 0-12 and damn near made the Playoffs.

Are they still playing those stupid games with the anthem? Apparently so. This is why I wouldn't be watching the WNBA if it weren't for Caitlin Clark.

The New York Times reported there were racial slurs hurled at the Angel and the Sky from the fans in Indiana yesterday. The league put out a statement condemning what happened.
You guys are upset that they apparently made some sort of protest by walking off before the anthem, and yet I see exactly why they did it. Because of nasty people like those fans in Indiana who don't know how to act like civilized adults.

Also the Chicago Skye are horrible
I was bummed to see the headline of the game, and just below the espn fold was the Clark foul. Just sets off the racists ****s all over again.
I know CC and Angel have an actual basketball rivalry, but, idk…something feels a little unnerving about that play. Clark is really smart. I’m quite sure she’s aware of the narratives and the optics and the “conversations” going on (despite some wanting to believe she and all those close to her must live under a rock).
Maybe she just missed the ball on the swipe? Ok, giving the benefit of the doubt there, but she just had to add a little shove and a little stare too? Just, why get into it with Reese specifically given all the known drama and sickening hatred being spewed in CC’s “defense.” I also didn’t like how she walked far away from the incident like she was some goodie two shoes. Maybe Angel did something earlier, idk. In that case it’s more understandable.
I’m sure your post wasn’t just about the one incident, but I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive. CC definitely has a very whiny and entitled way about her with the refs that I don’t like. But I also don’t think she should be crushed for that given we see it all the time with the Lukas and the Lebrons and plenty of other nba stars.
I think Angel knocked someone on the Fever over on a play or so before. CC hard fouled her in response. I missed the play that occurred before that flagrant.
It really isn't a big deal to me. If that happened between anyone else no one would care. Jonquel and Chelsea Gray got into it yesterday and everyone moved on. It's basketball. By the time the all star break comes the story will be "omg CC and Angel are on the same team".
CC jaws a lot with the refs. It's a fair criticism. She needs to be careful because those technicals add up quickly during the season. But otherwise...I really don't care because to your point, we see Luka, LeBron etc work the refs too and no one makes a huge deal out of it.
