Again, you say this, and it's 100% false dude. Repeating a falsehood over and over doesn't make it true.

I implore you to watch more games, because it's clear that you do not. The league has a ton of skilled players. We have more players than teams needed to accommodate for all the talent that has to play overseas because they can't make a 12 person roster because there's no more room.

Look man, I respect your opinion, maybe you could try respecting mine?
I expect the women's game to get significantly better over the next decade. You don't. You think it's already oversaturated with high-end talent.
Cool.
But saying my opinion is "100% false" and "embarrassing" and saying I don't watch games when you've no idea what I watch, is just you being arrogant.
I'm entitled to my opinion as much as you are to yours, and neither of us know the future.
Btw how much women's college do you watch? How about high school? How about club? If you don't also watch the next generations, maybe you aren't the authority on the subject you think you are.
We all know the W has improved significantly in terms of skill. That doesn't mean there's not more room for improvement. I think there's quite a bit of room, you don't, ok let's leave it at that without the personal attacks alright?

You saying that the league currently lacks skilled players is demonstrably false. We can list the rosters for each team and go player for player and it will not even come close to what you're heavily implying. You literally said that the league is full of scrubs! What else do you expect me to say?

I don't mean any disrespect, but come on man. Do better.

People say stuff like "it's just opinions, you need to respect mine" but like, if an opinion is based in ignorance, you don't gotta respect it

I can't act like I'm an authority on women's hoops, cause I really only started following the WNBA last year, and while I've watched a lot of NCAAW hoops, it's exclusively been the UConn women's teams. I'll defer to the people who have been watching this whole time

But it is annoying how so much of the conversation is this clickbait-y stuff. Like don't even get me started on that SAS podcast where he's frothing at the mouth about Monica McNutt calling him out on his bullsh*t, that just really showed me he isn't just playing a character, that's who he is. Dude was actually enraged that someone pointed out his deficiencies

It would be like if we were to judge the NBA off its worst moments, like if someone's first exposure to NBA basketball was Draymond putting Gobert in a chokehold, (obviously the whole CC is a white woman thing too but there's no real comparison to the NBA in that regard) yeah that's not a good look but on the whole of my viewing, it's just a few incidents. Sometimes there's a hard foul, but the vast majority of the time, it's perfectly fine. But that makes sense, cause these people are only seeing the exceptions, they're not actually watching the games.

Well at least that’s honest. (Sort of.) Some people want to see the women play a rougher game than the men. I prefer how the game was played pre-bad boys. To me Russell-Chamberlain dueling, the Knicks mix, Walton’s all-court and the Magic-Bird rivalry was the epitome of the game. Let the talent shine, tough, but not cheap. I’d be more interested in the women’s game if they called it close and fair. Gooning it up turns me off.

.

But here's the thing, the gooning incidents are a miniscule percentage of WNBA plays. Literally it's on par with the NBA: dirty plays/flagrant fouls happen, yeah, but it's not the norm. The idea that every WNBA game is a throwback to Celtics/Pistons in 1987 is just not true. I'm old enough to remember the Bad Boys Pistons and the league isn't anything close to how violent and dirty the men played back in the mid to late 80s.

I don't want to see women playing a more violent game than men, I want people to stop clutching their pearls because for the first time in their lives they realize that women at the pro level play just as hard and physical as their male counterparts do and they can't handle it. I also do not want to see the league start making the W soft by calling weak touch fouls that usually don't get called.

Yep the fact that we have people using two isolated incidents to judge the entire women's game as "too physical" is an automatic clue that they don't watch any of these games. If they did, they wouldn't even care about any of this because it's simply not a big deal. CC survived Chennedy's brutal shoulder check. Angel got right back up after being choke slammed to hell. It's gonna be alright lol

Imagine judging the NBA on it's isolated incidents. Draymond stomping on Sabonis' chest, and choking out Rudy. One of the Wagner boys got KO'd on the sidelines from a punch like last year. The more I think about the more I wonder how we even got here.

Wake me up when someone in the W tries to do what Joel Embiid did to Mitchell Robinson a few weeks back in Round 1. Now that was crazy and no one even cared

If the league knows that rookie hazing goes on, they should be aware of it and ready to call it when it occurs.

Two isolated incidents are considered hazing now?

No, they need to embrace skill over physicality. I see alot of longtime fans talking about how the wnba has always been physical and we newbies are just finding out; as if it was a good thing. I wont pretend as if i have watched alot of wnba but what i have seen needs improvement. And you can start by allowing more freedom of movement and encouraging a more uptempo style of basketball.

Also, change the quarters to 12 minutes.

A lot of WNBA veterans have talked about experiencing hazing when they entered the league, this isn't just about Clark.

"Hazing" as in abuse by teammates or experiencing physical play during a game?

I agree with you about the quarters. There's no reason why games aren't longer. Especially with how wonky the schedule is.

But honestly? The league isn't any more physical than the NBA is. The whole issue is being overblown based on two isolated incidents and because they're women. Dudes in the NBA get knocked around all the time and it doesn't draw any attention the way this stuff has.

I can honestly say i felt this way from game one of my wnba viewing. Its partially being influenced by watching a bad team in the Fever but i still think there are improvements that should be considered in the off season.

Yeah the Fever has not done the league any favors  I had a feeling that would happen.

Regarding changes, my only concern is about the league trying to copy the NBA, which I honestly think is a boring product because of how skewed everything is towards offense and star players being favorited by the officials, and losing what makes the W unique. I like the physical defense and emphasis on team basketball/post play. Could there be some changes to allow perimeter players off ball more freedom of movement? Sure. But it shouldn't come at expense of the defensive integrity of the league.

Like, the stars are stars in the W because of their talent and not because they're big names getting friendly whistles. Stewie, A'ja, etc drop big games through straight up hoops and not that foul baiting crap we see in the NBA from guys like Harden and Embiid. No one is going to be rewarded for flopping or screaming loudly on a drive. Keep that garbage with the men.

I don't see an issue then. Everyone gets their welcome to the league moment but outside of the two isolated incidents, rookies aren't getting intentionally beaten up like that.

If rookies like Clark and Reese were getting annihilated every night, sure that is a serious problem. But they're not and frankly CC has toughened up quite a bit compared to the start of the season, and Angel is already tough as nails.

Imo physicality in basketball isn't from lack of skill, it's more from lack of athleticism. Can't keep up with speed or strength of someone on defense you end up fouling them amd getting physical. Some of the defense I see in wnba (not all, I've been surprised by some perimeter defenders) , especially post defense, isn't on par with the offensive skill sets.

So yeah physicality probably isn't going away any time soon.

The league is all skilled players. There are only 144 spots. Everybody can play. Most rookies don't even make the team.
