Re: 2024 WNBA Season Discussion Thread
quite frankly, I don't know much about WNBA games, although I followed college standouts like Diana Tarasi, Sue Bird and Britney Griner's careers a little bit... like a lot of other bandwagon fans, I started reading all the Caitlin Clarks story lines and her games... and digged some youtube commentaries about the league... now I kinda understand why WNBA is so unlikable, he league feels like a bunch of lesbians bullying other girls on and off the court... feels like a bunch of women pretend to be men, talking and acting like men... but skill wise they can't be men or get to that level, Diana Tarasi probably is the only one who has a exceptional level of skills...Caitlin Clarks plays a modern NBA game style, but she is being killed by physicalities ... she has a long way to go, has to improve her skill level to get there, but at least she is likebale and her game is pleasant to watch...

For anyone that’s interested First Take ended up doing a 40 min segment on the WNBA, CC, “resentful” and “jealous” players etc.
At the end, Monica McNutt cooked SAS and he looked pissed. Very interesting segment. Not sure how this will change her relationship with First Take.

This is actually what got me to start watching the WNBA. Any time there would be a thread about it in the GB I would always notice a bunch of awful comments from weirdos about the league and quality of play. I suspected it was mostly nonsense and eventually it made me curious enough that I decided to actually watch some games to confirm for myself and I ended up becoming a fan.

Rickea Jackson also made a couple of fadeaways in the game that I attended. I'm getting pretty much all that I expected from my return to WNBA fandom, and i'm enjoying it immensely. Having to encounter the racism/misogyny/homophobia which follows CC in her wake (and she has nothing to do with) has been a huge drag, but it's not enough to turn me away.

How did she cook him? He has no control on the leagues popularity. Until women start watching sports consistently the league will struggle.

I also dig this about the league, but the thought settled in the back of my mind real early after observing these positives, combined with Clark’s arrival.
Is she going to ruin it?
Not directly, or literally her fault in any way, but more that her game and fame combined with the state of the men’s game is going to produce a generation of 3-point spamming women that eventually leads us to the same homogenous, predictable play we see in the NBA.
Probably inevitable, so I guess enjoy this current W while it lasts I suppose.

Please use that report button so as to get our attention to them. It helps as we're not always around and don't want it to come across that if some are missed they are ok. They're not and we'll deal with them. Thanks as always to the thoughtful contributors.

The game is always in a state of flux, but to your point, I wouldn't say CC is an anomaly because Sabrina does the same thing. There will be more 3 point bombers on the way lol

Yeah I was gonna let that dude have it because i remember him from the Nets forum years back when Jeremy Lin was on the team, this wasn't the first time the poster in question has made blatantly racist remarks, but I saw that you took care of it and it made me think that I just need to hit report and move on.
G thank you, cupcake and Doc for making this a great place to talk about the W and women's hoops. The W board is slowly growing and while diverse opinions are a necessity, we're gonna see some toxic folks wander through here with bad intentions especially now with CC taking the spotlight for better or worse. Thank you all ahead of time.

I predict that she'll have to diversify her offense to really make it as a scorer at this level. She successfully posted up Dana Evans in the clutch against the Sky, and imo that's a good sign for her. But I could be wrong, maybe she'll able to get back to her threes/layup bag, we'll see . . .

Re: 2024 WNBA Season Discussion Thread
TC brought up a point earlier about CC that I wanted to address: there were instances in college where we saw CC pushing opponents and trash talking on the court. We all saw it, and I had no issue with it. That's apart of the game. Just like I had no issue with Angel sh*t talking her back.
My thing is, CC has gotta toughen up. Not yesterday, but overall i have seen too much complaining to the refs from the rookie. My opinion, let the coaches/team brass handle that. Just play on and play hard.
I don't condone what Carter did, nor do I condone what AT did to Angel (which ppl seem to have forgotten about, which was WAY worse and could have caused a serious injury), but these rookies are gonna get roughed up. It's always been like that. They gotta toughen up. Angel understood the assignment when she got choke slammed, no one is going to let you have it easy. I don't like the narrative in the media being pushed by guys like Shannon, Stephen A etc calling other players jealous or haters. It's an air of sexism to their commentary and I'm glad Monica McNutt pushed back on this.

It's a learning process. That part honestly gets lost in all of the discourse: CC is still a kid in terms of being a professional, and with that comes hardship, adjustments and growth. I wanna see CC use her size more to her advantage, as you alluded to

It's pretty addicting once you get into it. I was a casual watcher for years (I go back to when T-Spoon played for the Liberty) but I started paying more attention when Sabrina got drafted and I've been hooked in ever since.

Hopefully this issue can be put to bed now.
Still, I would have liked to see more outrage/criticism towards Alyssa Thomas for what she did to Angel than what Chennedy did to CC. The former play was a lot more violent.

Re: 2024 WNBA Season Discussion Thread
I'm not trying to No True Scotsman it (and because I don't post in here as often as I probably should) but I feel like most of the negativity and toxic discourse is coming from people who don't actually watch the WNBA
Cause like the talking heads on ESPN like SAS and Pat McAfee don't actually watch, they're just using the same script generator they use for every other sport and trying to graft it onto the WNBA, and then the people who watch them get mad because they don't care about the WNBA and don't want to hear about it, but they have strong opinions regardless because that's the type of people who watch First Take and the like
On one hand, it does mean the WNBA is getting more attention, but on the other hand, it just sucks.
