Early 15-6 Germany lead over the US -- Germany shooting lights out and USA looking sloppy outside of Stewie.

Chelsea Gray just looks too old to be out there.

I feel like A'ja gets called for traveling at least twice a game. She has 2 travel calls today already. Both times were while making a post move too

Not entirely a surprise. After all, they have two legit studs out of their four players. Two more than the men's team does!

so we lost to spain in the semis. it felt like we should have won the entire time but so it is.

i think we had a more talented team but only from a scoring perspective. the guards couldn't make good passes into the post or passes in traffic for layups. defense was also poor giving up a lot of open 2s

I want to see some wild/fun lineups for men's and women rosters. Even if it's a few minutes just for the hell of it. We'll never get to see these players on the same court in a competitive environment other than the All-Star game. Coaches have the best players in the USA -- give us some fun for a few minutes!

Once the Olympics arrived, I wasn’t as excited for WBB as I thought I’d be. I was much more excited about it weeks before the Olympics.

I guess once it arrived, I’ve felt/realized that it feels like an even greater forgone conclusion than the men (who I think could lose vs a hot shooting opponent, and due to Kerr putting names ahead of play).

I did watch most of the Germany game, and while fun to see all the stars, you just know the outcome even if the other team puts up a good fight for a quarter or so.

I’ll definitely catch the medal round, but when it comes to WBB, I’m looking fwd to the W season again.

I know their time will come, and I’m objectively fine with their omission, but ngl. As a fan and for fun factor, I wish Angel and Caitlin were on the team.

I don't care about either US Olympics team, men or women. I mean they are great but they don't yet have real competition. So the games are inevitably just exhibitions.

Mostly, but the one game anything can happen mantra does apply. The “Redeem Team” was crazy talented and had to go down to the wire with Spain. There’s potential drama of some opponent gets hot.

Of course Spain had a true “golden generation” at that time, and I’d guess one of the best non-US teams of all time.

Germany’s really good, but don’t think they can match the Gasol bros./prime Pau/young Marc.

Guessing, but it feels like for the women, it’s akin to ~1996-2000ish in the men’s era in terms of talent disparity. I just can’t see any real drama developing there, even in a single game.

If Australia gets knocked out twice in two nights I'm not going to be happy. Go Opals!

That sounds about right. There is a slight chance of an upset in the men's knockout stage, because the rest of the word has progressed. I don't see any possibility for the women.

Marine Johannes went off for France against Germany, pulling out the whole bag. She had 24 points on 8/14 overall and 5/10 from three. And she started getting the Harden/Curry/Clark hug them off the ball at half court treatment.

In the last minute, she tried something I have never seen anyone else do, ever. She was inbounding the the ball in the frontcourt on the sideline with 2.6 seconds on the shot clock, with Fiebich guarding the inbounds pass, facing her and playing close to the sideline. She threw the ball off Fiebich's thigh so it bounced to the side toward the corner, inbounds, recovered it and got up a three pointer before the shot clock buzzer (missed the shot, but still). I've seen players throw an inbounds pass off a defender who had their back turned and recover it, but never off a defender who was facing the play and guarding the inbounds passer. And she wasn't even trying to avoid a five second count, since she did it pretty much as soon as the ref handed her the ball. The game was already decided by then, but it was a final example of Johannes doing Johannes things where you just shake your head and think, "WTF, did she really just try that?"
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Yesterday I was lying; today I'm telling the truth.

Nigeria is awful. 5 turnovers in the 1st quarter and maybe 4 of them were unforced. USA hasn't been great either only up by 6.

They settled in more, played pretty well when they could avoid TOs. US's offense has seemed pretty rushed, so much offensive talent and about 30% of their shots have been really tough/bad. Not that it matters though.
