It's not that hard to understand. Reese has not been the diplomat Clark has on the mic, she has said and done things that have rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Like cheering on Chennedy Carter's cheap shot against Clark, that's a visual that's hard to get out of your mind. There's the old "you can't see me" gesture she used against Clark in college, and rubbing LSU's win in her face. That's not the end of the world, but I wouldn't call it good sportsmanship. She's expressed annoyance that she hasn't gotten the kind of credit Clark has for the WNBA's increased attendance. None of this stuff really matters, but it shouldn't be surprised that some fans are not that fond of her, especially fans of Caitlin Clark.

That’s all fine and I think accurate, but why are people so fired up still, in this thread, about stuff that happened months (and even years) ago?

I think that’s what MDB is saying. Why are people passionate enough to make several of the recent posts about stuff that’s long over when there hasn’t been any kind of new catalyst anywhere near recent memory.

Yes, it is long past time to bury these narratives of alleged WNBA feuds and jealousy. Long, long past.

It's just the vitriol towards anyone that remotely offers a positive opinion on Angel Reese that is bizarre. Like...OK, CC is clearly the ROTY. What do you want people to say now? That they're sorry for recognizing that the league has two rookies breaking records left and right??

Should Angel Reese have not been acknowledged at all for what she's doing in her own rookie campaign? The idea that the media should have ignored her in Clark's favor is absurd and, as I've said, weird.

Also, in light of the fact that we now know that Angel has been receiving death threats and people have actually attempted to stalk her over this stuff, you'll all have to excuse me, but I find this lock step hatred for her from CC's fanbase to be highly alarming and it clearly goes beyond the confines of the basketball court.

I get it. Let me pose a question to you though:

So when Caitlin did the "You can't see me" gesture in Hailey Van Lith's face in that very same season in NCAA, which prompted Angel to do it to her in response, was that good sportsmanship or nah? Because this notion that Clark is some super classy competitor is nonsense, CC talks as much trash as Angel does out there. And I frankly love it for both of them. It's fun.

Angel shouldn't have clapped when Chennedy put CC on her ass. That I agree with. I personally think she was caught up in the competition, but I've never seen her say or do anything that remotely thinks she wanted to see any real harm come to her opponent. Mind you, this is someone who has been on the receiving end of a mid air choke slam this season and she was completely gracious about it afterwards.

But Angel being opinionated and competitive aren't good reasons in my opinion to warrant the kind of rhetoric I'm seeing. I wish ppl would tone the hate down for a moment and actually watch and listen to Reese instead of running with these narratives. I see Reese always taking time out to be kind to young fans, she's always giving CC her props along with other players new and old, and she plays hard despite being far from a finished product. That young woman is a professional.

All I'm trying to say is it shouldn't be this serious. I go back to what she admitted the other day and it made me sick to my stomach that things have gotten to the point where people are threatening to rape and kill her over goddamn basketball. That's all I'm saying.

This is sports, people get fired up over all sorts of things. Memories tend to be long in such cases. Reese said she was willing to play the villain to get the attention she wanted, so if some people treat her as a villain, it shouldn't be a big surprise.

Angel said she would "play the villain" because it helps drive interest and revenue. I don't think it should be taken literally to the point where people are taking it to where anyone who supports her or speaks highly of her gets attacked by crazed fans or again, her being stalked and threatened with death.

This isn't basketball

Yeah, I'm all for competition and fans rallying behind their favorite players, but I think the temperature needs to cool down a bit in general

Note: I am not lumping in anyone on here with the stuff that has been happening to Reese.

Clark has a long off season to improve her game & that’s scary.

That floater is pretty awful looking, but if she can get better at that it will add so much to her game.

Yeah I think adding an Ionescu like floater and a step back mid range J are a must.

Sabrina's floater is nice, but I think unnecessary in the WNBA, where there's no Wemby or AD rotating over from the weak side, so you'd better get off your shot now, while the window is still open. Every perimeter defender knows that Caitlin is money if she gets he mark on her hip, so they furiously backpedal to stay between her and the rim. Stop and pop would work just fine. The defender will easily be beaten, and WNBA rim protectors aren't going to reach 12 feet into the air to block Clark's jump shot.

For comparison's sake, no WNBA player has ever averaged 16 points/7 assists per game over a full season. Four have averaged at least 16/6, although none to those scored as many as 21 points. Those five have been -

Sabrina (twice, including this year)

I dunno if I agree totally Ice, messing around in the paint where Ezi, BG, Smith or A'ja are lurking is a good way to get your shot blasted back in your face  That floater not only creates easy buckets for Sab but also keeps her from getting hammered in the lane.

BUT

Stop and pop works fine as well, especially for Clark who will be able to get to her spots at will

26pts on 63% TS

Big numbers yet this was below average game from Clark compared to her recent average. Her average is 3.5 possessions lost (TOs - Stls - OREB) per game and tonight she lost 9.

A very rough start for Caitlin, but she righted the ship in the final 20 minutes. A learning experience for both her and the rest of the Fever team -- even against weak opposition, at home, you'd better show up ready to play. Or the other team will take your cookies.

Fun (and amusing) fact: She is now the Indiana Fever franchise leader in double-doubles.

Clark has the physical tools to be a good defender on the perimeter: she's smart, fast, strong & tall, but man does she not like playing defense.
