Ok I think we've more than covered the discrimination element in the Caitlin Clark discourse. It's not going anywhere so let's just put that one on the shelf for now. Clark has been a bit of a lightning rod for some pretty toxic discourse, so let's all try to be mindful and respectful when discussing a difficult topic.

I agree with this take from Rachel Nichols.

Why is Dijonai made to be some evil supervillain all over social media, YouTube, you name it…for acting exactly like a….GASP!!!

A….Basketball player!?!?!!

Please. Ask yourselves why?

Nichols then specifically mentioned NBA players Patrick Beverley and Chris Paul, who’ve gone back and forth mocking one another for flopping in the past. The women, she continued, should be allowed to do the same without facing criticism in the media.

Yeah Chris Paul and Pat Bev don't get criticism for their grub acts. /s

So the whole article is pointless since the grub WNBA players are getting criticised just as the grub NBA players.

You think it’s covered equally? You’re missing Rachel’s point.

Yeah, CP/Pat Bev get criticized here by hardcore fans who sign up to participate in a message board. A niche group as ever there was.

Their little tifts aren’t a big story and portrayed as if one specific player is getting bullied by the evil force that is the other player.

Compare YouTube comments of the Clark / Carrington vid to CP3/Pat Bev vids. It is not the same.

Compare youtube comments? Go on then. I await the results.

If you think these ladies have been getting worse than the men as far as social commentary goes then you are just wrong. WNBA just isn't used to any attention. Positive and negative. If you're not used to it I can see how you could be confused.

Again, is one player painted as a victim, and another as if they’re some evil movie character?

Find me any NBA player that has been portrayed by media and “fans” as a victim to the level that Clark has been.

Larry Bird. He didn't respond to the racism though. Didn't play to the media tune and got on with the game. Just like CC.

If you think NBA players haven't gone through all this then you are either bias, ignorant or both.

You continue to ignore the question, and keep recycling the same thing.

Even so, Bird’s newspaper, magazine times just don’t compare to today’s era where everyone has a phone, social media, League Pass, and 100MM more people in the country.

Besides. The original point was about the media portrayal and how some of the “fans” are reacting, and nothing to do with Caitlin.

NBA players do what Dijonai did all the time to players that flop. Guys like Trae, Harden, Embiid, Lowry have all been mocked on the court for it by other players and no one cared. Nor should anyone care because it's not that serious.

Rachel Nichols is right. There's a loud subsect of CC's fandom that is absolutely psychotic. Gamesmanship on the court shouldn't lead to someone getting slurs thrown their way. There is a clear difference here.

You're seriously comparing Larry Bird's time in the 80s to what's happening now in 2024? You do realize that there wasn't 24/7 sports media or social media back then, right?

Right???

Here's a good example:

https://www.reddit.com/r/wnba/s/gfW7avbzXF

^an entire thread of her "fans" portraying her as some kind of victim. Safe to say, none of this is normal or healthy.

Nope, and your petty decision will be the lead story on your team throughout the Olympics, regardless of how you play.

Why petty? Looks like it was a basketball decision. Don't follow women's basketball but I do know one thing and that's that she's a rookie.

And unless she is already a top 12 player in the league, or flirting to be, I'm not sure what the uproar is for. Kyrie didn't make the men's team and no one was saying it was petty. And he's clearly a top 12 talent on the US side.
She is not and she is not good enough. Everybody listed is better than her.

This is a pretty dumb take IMO, so they are dominate but still can't break even after nearly 20 years.... mayyyyyybbbe it's time for the league to worry about entertainment aspect as well, if the NBA didn't give subsidy to this league it would have folded years ago.

You seem to be under the impression that the WNBA and USA Women's Basketball are the same thing?
Don't bother. People are talking to talk.

I like how people think they are scoring points by pointing out that USA Women’s basketball is not the WNBA when the literal national team coach had to private her twitter after bashing Caitlin and using "#theWismorethanoneplayer" and "#12teams” hashtags.

It’s all the same people and all the same attitude lol

Team USA Basketball is a private corporate entity that is separate from the WNBA, an enterprise operated by the NBA.

It's not some conspiracy. She isn’t good enough to make the team. Maybe if you watched games you'd know this instead of behaving like a cultist
