Mitchell's a guard though. I'm sure there's an argument for replacing MItchell with more defense, but I'm leery of it. When the Fever can't find a shot and the clock is winding down, seems like they often just give it to Mitchell and let her create something. I don't know, I'd try improvements elsewhere first. But we'll see what the front office is thinking come offseason. I'm not sure I have a lot of faith in them however.

Yeah i meant the two guard version of Hull. Micthell is great, im not discounting her contribution to winning.

Assuming Lexie Hull isn't just on a hot streak...i don't know if there is a shooting guard who is a top defender, who is a really good 3 point shooter and can create there own shot at a high level.

Does that player even exist in the WNBA right now? maybe Laney from NYL. It's a hard type of player to find.

I think Satou Sabally would be perfect for them...not sure if they could pull it off

Letting Mitchell go will probably be a good way to piss CC off at this point.

Forward is where upgrades are needed. And back up PG.

If Mitchell leaves, how many of CC's assists are walking out the door?

Assists and a steady 20+ ppg that the other players on the roster can't provide.

KM doesn't really have a choice of the Fever 'core' her right? They core her for the year and give her the super max and boom she can't go anywhere. Right?

Yeah hope Fever don't F that up and let KM choose to go somewhere else (unless she is adamant on not wanting to play in Indiana).

my hypothetical was if she decides to walk. Letting an asset go for nothing does not improve your team. Unless that player is Zach Lavine.

You would think there would be data on who has scored off Clark's assists, but if so, I can't find it. At any rate, my impression is that Boston & Mitchell have scored the most often from her assists. Not sure who would be third ... Smith, I suppose, as she has played the most minutes.

Clark's assists by teammate:
Boston 95
Mitchell 73
Smith 52
Fagbenle 21
Hull 20
Samuelson 18
Wallace 12
Dantas 11
Wheeler 10

I actually got it from here:
https://www.pbpstats.com/assist-combo-summary/wnba?Season=2024&SeasonType=Regular%2BSeason

I just put "Caitlin Clark" in the search box at the top of the "Assist Player" column to bring up all the combos for Clark.

Yeah Mitchell is going nowhere unless she just wants to leave, which would suck.

Really hope the Fever have a better game plan today against the Aces and they don't crap the bed. They came out strong on Wednesday, but got in a huge funk on offense in the 2nd quarter.

Sides needs to figure out how to get CC free from Jackie Young and a way to double Wilson somehow. Is zone defense an option against the Aces to keep Wilson under control?!

On the bright side, they played excellent defense, except for Clark in the first half. (She fixed that in the second half.) But they pissed the game away at the free throw line.

With that item, Smith is a real problem. She can't make outside shots and shoots only 62% for her career from the foul line, including 57% this season. So even though she's billed as an offensive talent, she's not really that. Let her take the shot if it's at all questionable, otherwise just hack her.

Fever looked one piece short last night.

As they got 5 points from Smith and Hull, on 1-7 shooting with 4 turnovers, I would say two pieces short! Both Clark and Mitchell were imperfect, with Clark having the turnovers and not very efficient shooting, and Mitchell having 3 TOs with no assists, but they each did contribute offensively, as did Boston. However, the other two starters were AWOL.

In contrast, while Stokes gave nothing to the Aces' offense, their next lowest scoring starter was Young, who chipped in with 12 points and 6 assists. That's a big difference.

Team still looks better then they did in June. That Fever squad loses by 20+ last night.

Defense, defense, defense. They held Vegas to under 20 points in 3 of the 4 quarters. Indy did an excellent job of swarming A'ja, forcing her into a distinctly subpar 6-15 from the field, while still finding a way to close down her teammates' shots. Nothing came easy for the Aces. I was impressed.
