Still no Sykes. Melbourne gets elbowed in the mouth by Chelsea early in the 1st.
No problem for the Mystics.
Sug puts in 40 minutes of work. Another great game, including a beautiful bank shot 3 pointer with the shot clock expiring. Rookie Lucy Olsen takes her opportunity and puts in 37 solid minutes.
Sonia, Kiki, and Shakira kicking arse as always.
When the Mystics go into Vegas and beat the Aces shorthanded, it's not an upset. They are just better.

Portland, who still doesn't officially have a name (and it's looking more and more like they're going to pick the name that nobody wants them to pick), has already fired their team president. Who was just hired in April.
Who knows how they do, but the odds of them pulling this off anywhere near as well as Golden State seem very low.

Re: 2025 WNBA Regular Season Discussion Thread
Pretty awesome night incoming (other than CC missing what should have been the first CC-Paige game in the W. That sucks)
But we're still trying to figure out if the Mercury or Dream are real contenders.
Dream get the Lynx and it sounds like Phee could be back. Great test.
Mercury get the Liberty again. No JJ or FIebich sucks, but if the Mercury can beat the LIberty twice in a week, it's time to take them super serious, IMO.
On the Mercury, I know they will, and they should, bring in DeWanna. I love DeWanna. She's a legend. But they've found some amazing chemistry around the 4 undrafted rookies. I trust they'll get it right, but bringing DW in would be a big change to something that's working really well.

First look at Angel Reese this season against the Valkyries.
First two shot attemps were jumpers and big misses. Big misses. Has she been hitting jumpers?

I think Angel Reese will retire from the WNBA in the next few years. I don't think she really loves basketball. She can probably earn more money outside of basketball if we being honest.
Going to be hard for her to maintain that star appeal when she can't shoot.

Paige is really good. May be as good as CC by the end of the year.

Paige can fit into any offense and any team and a team has to adjust to CC's game. Their career arcs will be fun to watch

Kaitlyn Chen has a spot in this league next season. She's under control for the most part and a capable ball handler.

Re: 2025 WNBA Regular Season Discussion Thread
Man, the Mercury look so good.
I'm sure it'll be fine if they do, but this team doesn't need Bonner. They are the deepest team in the league, with a lot of players that have earned minutes. I want to see them play more, not less.
I'm sure it would be fine, but it's always risky to tinker with something that's working so well.
I also don't know why the Mercury just signed Kiana Williams if they have any intention to sign Bonner.
Dream are in a similar situation. They got PaoPao, Naz Hillman, and Coffey coming off the bench and playing well.
Aces or Storm make a lot more sense because they could use the some depth (though I'm not sure what roster moves they could do to pull it off).

The other night when she got her first bucket And 1, the Chase Center hit a new level. A beautiful moment.
I agree she she has a place in this league. I'm just not sure how Valkyries fans will handle it if it's for another team.

The league is so small that there's always going to be talent waiting in free agency. I know a lot of Valkyrie fans get attached to our players as they should, but this roster may or may not be the same next season and that's okay.

Yes, and they are currently without Lexi Held, who has played great in over 20 mpg. That's probably the big reason for signing Kiana Williams, because they are down two roster spots with Held and Megan McConnell being injured, although Copper being healthy moving forward means less rotation minutes available.
They've scouted so well with their free agent rookies. Everyone who has gotten rotation minutes at one time or another, 1-11, has contributed positively and looks like they belong, plus Sami Whitcomb has been an excellent acquisition. Of course having AT, Satou, and KFC as the core goes a long way with the right complementary pieces.
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I'm sure A'ja and Kelsey Plum are going to be begging to be Valkyries here in a few months.
I just hope they know this is Kayla and Veronica's team.
A'ja and Kelsey just gotta get in where they fit in.
Seriously though, the Valks cuts in the coming weeks and next year are going to be brutal. They have found so many good, fun players.

Just so impressive what they've done.
Most had them as a fringe playoff team because of perceived lack of depth (I thought so too).
AT with 2 other superstars and crazy depth? And the right kind of depth, players that can shoot and play good defense.
Versatile 4's are probably the most valuable players in the league right now. PHX has 2 of the top....what, 6 of those?
Them winning a title wouldn't be crazy.
Vegas is starting to agree. Liberty (+140) and Lynx (+250) are still the shortest odds. Fever (+500) close behind. Then the Mercury (+700).
But after that, the odds get really long (Vegas +1800 and Seattle +2400).
Vegas is in on the Mercury, but they still seem like a great bet.

there is a pretty clear cut 4 teams for the lottery so far, but a decent team is going to end up being in the lottery and its likely going to come down right to the end

Re: 2025 WNBA Regular Season Discussion Thread
Pretty big game for Liberty and Dream today.
Liberty need to re-establish dominance, and the Dream need to figure out if they are the same team that took the Lynx and LIberty to the brink or if they are the team that scored 55 points against the WIngs.
