Caitlin Clark left off USA Roster
I'm honestly not sure what they're trying to do here...but it's really a bizarre decision to not include the most high profile women's player in the past 20+ years on the Olympic roster. Give her an exemption for not being able to make the training camp...
This is why women's basketball will never succeed. They have a good thing right in front of them and can't even make the easy decision.

Not sure how accurate it is, but saw it suggested elsewhere that the wider potential playing group didn’t want to play with her.
This petty hatred these other women seem to hold for her is pathetic.

Ok, what other country can I root for in women’s basketball?
Think how selfish this is! Every single player on that team knows that America and the world would rather see Clark play than any one of them. Her popularity is undeniable. But these women don’t care what people want to see, they want to be selfish and petty.
They claim to want to support their sport, but this selfish decision only hurts it.

I didn't mind her before, I never had interest in women's basketball before, just followed it from afar.
But now I sense there's some jealousy and racism towards her, so I'm rooting for her.
I don't know why she was left out of the USA roster specifically, though.

Cause AR would not join unless CC is not on it. They need players who can take and dish out hard fouls with those foreign players.azcatz11 wrote:I'm honestly not sure what they're trying to do here...but it's really a bizarre decision to not include the most high profile women's player in the past 20+ years on the Olympic roster. Re: Caitlin Clarke left off USA Roster
Are you upset because it means you won’t watch and support the women’s team without her on the roster or are you upset because it means that the USA women’s team is weaker and can’t win a metal without Clarke?

They probably don’t need her to win the gold but these women need to look at the bigger picture if they want to be paid equivalent to a plumber let alone their male peers.

For a second, I thought women were allowed to play on the US Men's team. Carry on.

Coach Norman Dale: I would hope you would support who we are. Not, who we are not
Nope, and your petty decision will be the lead story on your team throughout the Olympics, regardless of how you play.

Why petty? Looks like it was a basketball decision. Don't follow women's basketball but I do know one thing and that's that she's a rookie.
And unless she is already a top 12 player in the league, or flirting to be, I'm not sure what the uproar is for. Kyrie didn't make the men's team and no one was saying it was petty. And he's clearly a top 12 talent on the US side.

Probably this. After seeing some other WNBA stars' comment on her, it's a "either us or her" situation written all over. Not gonna speculate and derail the thread, but as an outsider, it is hard not to see the tension between some groups of ball players, whether it is NBA or WNBA.
Anyways, her exclusion is a huge missed opportunity for women's basketball (not just Team US). Like her or not, she's single handedly making it more relevant and profitable, which is ironically what these anti-Caitlin Clark WNBA stars were complaining about all the time... I guess they prefer to be less relevant rather than seeing spotlights on her.

So you put out a false statement with nothing to back it up?
This entire situation has turned into women in the WNBA hating on Clarke.
The media is complaining more than Clarke. She has not said a word about people hating on her or the physical play. Physical play happens in every sport people.
Stop making excuses for Clarke. If she wants to be the best player it will take time. Once she figures out how to play through the physical contact she will be fine.
I understand people want this young lady to be the best player right away, but it takes time. Success doesn't come overnight.
Just stop with the people hating on her. They just playing hard and challenging her to see if she's really worth the hype. This is competitive basketball not hate!

Their claim is that they want to grow the women’s basketball game and the WNBA, and they are intentionally keeping the WNBA’s most popular player off the world’s biggest stage.
The NBA does not need the Olympics as a showcase. These players are being petty.

Re: Caitlin Clarke left off USA Roster
She's been struggling hard as a WNBA rookie and there's a massive hoopla wherever she goes which would be very distracting for Team USA. Honestly it would have felt kinda gimmicky to have her on the team. In 4 years she'll be at the Olympics but I get the decision to leave her off this time around.

Understood but the men’s team have done this in the past with Laettner and AD…there is precedence for having the new star rookie be apart of the team.
This is beyond that IMO bc she can single handily increase interest on her own much more than the men’s game needed.

She’s had a lot of turnovers with the ball in her hands immediately, and opposing defenses focusing on stopping her, but she was Rookie of the Month, the second player ever to average 15-5-5 in her first month, and tied the rookie three point record (7) last night in her 30 point game. They could have easily justified a spot.
But her impact goes far beyond her stats. Just like in the WNBA, the other players should be profiting from her popularity as she grows the league, not complaining about it. This was a massive blown opportunity to help the WNBA, and they have only emphasized their own pettiness.
