Post#1 » by cdubbz » Tue Jun 11, 2024 2:26 am

The newest WNBA expansion team is coming to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2025! Welcome Valkyries!

- GM is Ohemaa Nyanin, former NY Liberty Assistant GM.

- The team will play at Chase Center in San Francisco: the same arena as the Warriors.

- Their state of the art practice facility is based in downtown Oakland at the former Warriors practice facility.

As a Warriors fan and a Bay Area native I am extremely excited to have the WNBA in San Francisco. I was always curious as to why the Sacramento area got a WNBA team before the SF area, but it all works out now.

My conspiracy theory is that the league will want Paige to end up in Golden State

Paige would be great for us out here but From what I read - the new expansion team picks AFTER all the lottery teams which makes me ask how big is the WNBA lottery? is it just the non playoff teams? if so then it's like 5th pick.

The lottery is determined by an aggregate of the last two years' record if I'm not mistaken.

So most likely yeah the Vs pick after the non playoff teams. They will still get a good player, but Paige is going to be a superstar.

Looking forward to watching Paige. But saw one mock and she was #2 behind Kiki Iriafen. Is Kiki a superstar talent too?

Kiki from Stanford is a super efficient scorer with good size.

I have Paige #1, Kiki #2, Morrow #3.

Another name to keep an eye on: Ta-hina PaoPao (elite shooter).

That's pretty huge already. 12,000 tickets I would assume this means upper level is open as well. Hopefully lower bowl is completely sold out before going to upper level.

I know Golden State will debut in 2025 and Toronto in 2026. But how does that work? Wouldn't that kill the balance of the East and West?

Good to hear and i Initially thought it wasn't a great name and didn't roll off the tongue. I also wasn't a fan of the color scheme as it reminded me of the Kings and Monarchs. Seeing a shade of purple being lit around Chase Center made me want to vomit, but oh well

Wooo! Wish I was one of them. Will definitely be a hot commodity next year to go to a game! I really want to go to a handful of games.

Couldn't find expansion draft rules that are up to date for this years Valkyrie draft. Do they HAVE to pick a full team from the expansion draft list? Or can they select 8 players, grab 3 free agents and draft 1 player?

Wondering if the Valkyries can be a player in free agency for a star looking to be the face of a new franchise. Kelsey Plum we're looking at you!

If the Valkyries are run anything like the Warriors -- they're looking for good character players who will buy into a system. No idea if the new GM & owner will follow that, but if I were to start a franchise I would definitely balance image and talent. No rush in becoming a championship team in year 1, but getting an identity and a face for the franchise.

Yikes.

Edit: It's from a collab with a Premium clothing brand that works with sports leagues. There are the normal nike/fanatics $60-80 gear as well.

I remain a Pistons fan despite living in the Bay Area for most of the last 20 years, and I don’t really go to Dubs games (four times ever, I think, and never to Chase), but I plan to catch a few Valkyrie games the first season. I was at least a bit of a Shock fan back in the day, especially when Billy was coaching, but there’s nothing to be loyal to now.

Not buying a $185 hoodie, though. Good lord.
