Unrivaled 3v3 League (January 2025)

https://www.unrivaled.basketball/

Anyone else keeping up with this? Stewie and Phee's league is announcing who the 30 players are for the upcoming season.

So far it's Stewie, Collier, and Chelsea Gray. I guess the next announcement is pending.

I heard that Stewie has been trying to get Sabrina to play but she's been hesitant. I hope she comes around, she has to be in it

I think they're invited if I'm not mistaken. It would be cool if Angel and CC play. Too bad Cam is hurt.

And whomever is apart of the league's management I would assume. Cool note: all 30 players receive six figure salaries and equity in the league.

I'm sure this isn't just all on Stewie and Phee, there are sponsors involved too

From what I read there will be 6 teams, and there will be a round robin style schedule and the top 4 teams advance to the playoffs. The season is 8 weeks long.

Arike was just announced as the 4th player.

Now this is where things get interesting. Arike will probably be a must watch in these games based on her handle alone

The next two players announced are Jewel Loyd and Kelsey Plum

I'm curious to see if Clark or Reese have signed on

i'm guessing probably not a lot of international players will be in it because playing overseas in the off-season might mean going closer to home

probably doesn't pay enough for CC to lose rest over it.

playing on a 'compressed' full court '70x50 vs 94x50' for a 3x3? doesn't sound like a good idea.

Ok.

I'm kind of intrigued by the compressed full court format. I've played a lot of short court 4 on 4 in open gyms and rec leagues, and it works fine, but that's with an extra player per team and courts that are more like 50' long.

I wonder how much they've actually tested the format with practice games.

I can see it going really well, keeping the back and forth rhythm of full court, but with a fast pace and great spacing. But I can also see it going badly, with too many run-outs and uncontested transition opportunities. With only three players, any drive, post up, or offensive rebound attempt that puts you under the opponent's basket leaves your team very vulnerable in transition. If you have one player driving or posting, and another player cutting to the basket or crashing the boards, that potentially leaves the majority of your team behind the play in transition.

Half court 3 on 3 already has a long history in playground/pickup culture, and has been established as a formal international format by FIBA 3x3, so I'm curious about the reasoning behind making it full court. Since 3x3 is an Olympic sport, I think a top level 3x3 pro league would be cool, but maybe they wanted to distinguish Unrivaled as its own thing.
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Yesterday I was lying; today I'm telling the truth.

I have no idea how it will look honestly, but if we're getting 50 of the best players I'm watching regardless. But to your point, I'm intrigued at how this format will look. I thought it was regular 3 v 3. :o

That much court, that few players? CC would be a menace in that format.

Also, I guarantee if she does play, they’re announcing her 30th.

I saw the 3v3 game they put on at the WNBA All Star Weekend, but I didn't find it that appealing. It did get kind of interesting at the end of the game.
