What. A. Season!

Post#1 » by zike_42 » Mon Oct 21, 2024 7:42 am

No matter which team you supported, I think everyone can agree this was an amazing season. Here are a couple of highlights:

- Game attendance the highest in more than two decades.
- 54 million viewers, an all-time record.
- Attendance up 50% from last season.
- 154 sellout games, up from 45 last eason.
- Social media drew nearly two billion views, quadrupling last season.
- Most viewed regular season ever, up 170% from last season.
- A'ja Wilson's insane season, where she broke 1000 points (1021, averaging 26.9ppg, 11.9rpg, 2.6bpg, 1.8spg). And she's only 27 years old!
- After a slow start (with so, so many haters), Caitlin Clark balled out. Most assists in a season, ever. Not just by a rookie, EVER. Yes, there were more games played this season, but seriously, ever!
- Feel a bit sad for Alyssa Thomas, who would have broken the record (her own from 2023) if not for Clark.
- Speaking of ever, A'ja Wilson broke the season record for most rebounds with 451. Even more suprisingly, rookie Angel Reese was second all time with 446.
- The rookie class is looking Special with a capital S. Clark (19/6/8), Reese (14/13), Rickea Jackson (13/4), Kamilla Cardoso, Aaliyah Edwards and Julie Vanloo stuck in Washington, Leonie Fiebich being a major reason NYL won the title, the list goes on. Let alone Cameron Brink coming back next season after injury. Wow.
- Napheesa Collier is HER. After an excellent season last year, this year was spectacular. Not only DPoY, but second in MVP voting shows she can do it on both ends. 20/10/3/2 is an insane statline but it got better in the playoffs. 24/9/4/2/2 playing 38.3 minutes per game! Ironwoman should be her middle name.
- Thank God the Liberty won, I've been following this team since T-Spoon and it has been more relief than excitement.

And even with all that, we have the future to look forward to.
- Golden State Valkyries, which is an amazing name BTW, joins next season.
- People will remember why Paige Bueckers was hyped so much this college season. If healthy, don't be surprised to see her have close to a Clark-esque season (viewership, not stats).
- Don't sleep on Azzi Fudd either, who was ranked #1 HS player for a reason.

There is so much more I could go on about (DT last season perhaps?) but I thought I'd ask what you guys liked/enjoyed about this season. How did your team go? What are you looking forward to for next year?

it was honestly the first season i followed the wnba closely.

its a bit weird why i couldnt get into it before, considering all my live i was very close with the women's teams of my own clubs, even coached a little bit. i always respected the soundness of fundamentals and technique the ladies bring to the table. in my own experience they were always more skilled than us. we just had the athleticism and power on them. we scrimmed them a lot for fun and getting reps in. and the way they could run plays to the teeth without mistakes, they all had a jumper, had good passing skills and high bball iq was amazing. cant say that about some of my old teammates, that were only there because they were huge or could jump high.

i must say, i am so damn impressed how far this league has come. and im excited to watch this league grow.

i honestly also enjoy the storylines that clark braught into it. makes it a hell of a lot more enjoyable to me, as its also entertainment for me. i enjoy the nba and wnba not only for the sport. and i feel like those little things between clark and reese or clark and the GOATS is the spice that the league needed.

And as a New York enthusiast i enjoyed watching the Liberty win a chip, even tho it has nothing to do with the Knicks i know. Cant say its comparable to the knicks or that i feel overly joyful. But i just imagine and dream of how this could look like, if the knicks bring one home.
im bout dat action boss

I watched a lot a games this season, not just Clark games, but I did watch all the Fever games. I enjoy watching the games. Napheesa Collier is my favorite player, not named Clark.

Not to put a damper on their new found popularity. They still lost 30 million dollars. 10 million less than expected, but still, not good.

They need even more fans next season. I think they will, just don't know how many more. If they get a bigger TV contract and sell more merchandise. They might actually turn a profit.

The playoffs were so good that watching opening night of the NBA felt like such a drop off. I pretty bored last night watching both opening night games.

Not disparaging the NBA, but these WNBA playoffs featured some of the most consistently competitive basketball I've watched in years.

Honestly I was thinking this last night. Like yeah you know the guys are gonna pick up the intensity as the season goes on, but the difference between the intense competition we saw in the W compared to opening night of the NBA is was like night and day.

I wanted to bump this just express my appreciation for the community on this board which I think had a fantastic 2024 season.

I think clearly we'll tend to slow down on this board during the NBA season, and that includes myself, but I'm glad to be on a team with y'all and I look forward to more great seasons together.

Thank you for being positive! For so many years the discussion of women's hoops was my most cringy thing on RealGM because it seemed to inevitably lead to silly, immature boys being sexist. Now I feel entirely different.

Sincerely,
Doc

The W is in a good place. Better than its ever been..at this point you could sell a PPV of Liberty Vs Lynx "one night only".... A million buys.

You add CC it becomes the NBA in the 80's.
They're not Democrats. They don't want you to agree with them. They want to force you to pretend to agree with them.

That's communism.
