Get ready for an avalanche more of puff pieces like the WSJ one about how amazingly the league planned all this success out with their sharp foresight. Just stay the course people, no need to rock the boat with some silly lockout right ladies??

I imagine the league is gonna want to see how much of the CC effect is sustained in the new season before talking numbers.

Could be bigger since she and the Fever are expected to be even better. They have the money to add FA, so they could quickly become a real dark horse contender if it gels right.

I hope there will be less focus on drama and more on the game. Sooner than later I think she’ll cease being the new girl, and just be “one of us.”

Hope she becomes a PU leader in the foreseeable future, obviously a huge voice in the league.

Time to bump those salaries up. No one should be making less than 100k.

They signed a deal with Disney for 200 million a year recently. Of course the players were gonna wanna renegotiate after that. The current deal (even after opting out) still goes through Oct of 2025 so they have plenty of time to negotiate.

The players are overpaid. If the league wasn't bankrolling the WNBA it would have folded long ago.

I think only way it goes up in a significant matter is if the CC effect really did get a lot of new fans to watch teams other than Fever. Otherwise I think there's a better chance that the attendance numbers cool off now that the novelty of "rookie year proving herself" thing isn't there anymore, along with less drama.

I don't think she'll be treated as "one of us" for a long time. certainly not enough to be anywhere near PU any time soon. I think with everything that happened this season a lot of players are going to want to see her be very vocal and active about certain things for a while before they can "embrace" her.

It's weird that men who actively hate women's basketball have such strong opinions about this matter.

Wnba: "please pay attention to us"

Fans: "okay"

Wnba: "no not like that"

There will forever be a glass ceiling until the fans/media/players embrace CC and the new fans and enthusiasm she brings to the table. The fact remains that the WNBA is a huge money pit and the current fan base isn't commercially viable. It remains to be seen if this is going to end up being a future case study on how to fumble the bag in epic fashion.

100k should be minimum contracts. Give the players a liveable wage.

I think the players need to consider pushing for every team in the league to be paired with an NBA club to cut down costs. As much as I hate Brooklyn, the Liberty benefit a lot from being able to share resources

Going to be some drama and a whole lot of bad tweets.

But the goal should be to end up with a strong middle class making like 250k. Keep the max salary kind of low to make that happen.

Also need to fix the issue which prevents the Euro talent from playing in WNBA and Europe (although in some sense this is not in the PA's interest).

Few things I think should happen.

*Obviously pairing as many team with an NBA franchise and city just makes sense and should have been done in the first place. Connecticut being the obvious outlier.

*Schedule the season like you actually want to make money. No more going up against the NFL in primetime. This might irritate some people but Clark should be on my TV every Saturday afternoon on ABC not ESPN. You've got a draw now sell it fools. People need to get over it because moving past that they also need to schedule the other stars against CC every Saturday or against each other in a second game, probably on ESPN, to widen appeal. For those that think that extreme, trust me, that's exactly what the NBA did with Bird/Magic and then Jordan.

Market your stars. Obviously that includes CC but beyond that really get them out there. Napheesa Collier should on TV trying to sell the world something at least once an hour on sports channels until further notice, especially the league itself. Aja Wilson should be guest starring in sitcoms and joining the ESPN NBA crew for a Wednesday night. Market, market, market!!!

Fix your refs. They don't all have to be great, but connect them to at least one person at "league central" in real time who is. The NFL has it. Also cut back on the obvious personal fouls. Everyone likes physical, nobody likes dirty.

Give the players decent salaries and facilities.

the league has a bit of a balancing act i think. they've got to give more to the players but they also are in an expansionary phase - which requires more costs for the league. hopefully they got enough tv money this go around to give the players a lot of the good stuff they want and also continue to improve the league infrastructure

i think the (potentially) billion dollar question everyone will be watching next year is: what does the cc phenomenon look like in year 2? are the fever still selling out every game, home and away? are the million viewer games going up or down? especially the ones not involving the fever.

the big one i'll be wondering is, will there be a paige bueckers phenomenon? she's a great player but is she going to create the must-see roadshow type following that clark has? we'll get a preview of it this year with uconn, if they are selling out all their games. is paige in the wnba going to be just another in the long line of great uconn players or is she bringing something more? i think she's got a pretty big following but are those going to be new eyeballs on the wnba or is that group already watching? and that extends to the other big college names coming the next few years as well

this cba negotiation is step 1, the next one is the media deal opt out (in a few years i think). the media people want to see whether the interest can be spread out among a larger group of players/teams than it currently is. the real money will start flowing in if the league can demonstrate that the continued growing interest isn't resting solely on the shoulders of clark, reese, the liberty and aces.
