Serge Ibaka

Post#1 » by big L » Tue Mar 24, 2009 2:06 am

Anyone have a report on his play this year? I'm curious to know how he's been coming along.

Thanks in advance!

He´s playing for Ricoh Manresa, a middle team of Spanish League. I haven´t seen him so much, just two games an he did good, very intense, but I can´t give you a deeper opinion. Here are his stats:

16 min
6,8 pts
4,7 reb
0,2 asist
1,2 bl
58% FG
da da da da daaaaaa...

Ibaka's 3-years-long contract with Ricoh Manresa has NBA buyout clauses at the end of each season that could allow him to join Oklahoma City's franchise before the deal expires.

There is no reason to send him on loan. It is also too early to talk about him going to Oklahoma.

I'm told he's been decent but he's still far from being NBA ready, so I'm assuming he's staying in Manresa next season. I only watched a couple of games of him this season too and he played very little minutes; he's fluid and athletic but clearly very raw, except for a good form on the jump-shot. But lately he has been conquering minutes and responsabilities, so he certainly improved from then.

Yea, he has still a long way to be NBA ready. Most games he isn't even a factor in Manresa but with his athletic ability and work ethic i'm sure the guy will be a great player sooner or later. I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed another 2 years in Spain though.
I've seen a lot of comparisons with Garnett or Shawn Kemp but he reminds me more the young Mcdyess.

He's doing a good job for Manresa, but he isn't still the star he could be. In that team he will grow-up (good Centers can teach him a lot), we must wait some time.
