Where do we go from here?

Post#1 » by brassviews » Mon Sep 21, 2009 3:10 am

The next event is the WC in Turkey. With that mind, what preparations do you see your team making in order to have success at next year's event? Will your team look to make roster moves (bring in young players or veterans)? Will your team make coaching changes? Or will your team stay the same for one last run?

Well, for Great Britain it's all still up in the air with regards to the future. There's still no confirmation about 2012, and obviously we didn't qualify for the World Championships. I'd like to think we had a chance at a wild card spot, but having looked at the teams, Russia and Lithuania are almost certain to get cards, with the third probably going to Germany. Although considering Great Britain were competitive in all three games in the Group of Death, as well as being the host nation for the 2012 Olympics, maybe there is a chance.

Deng will be back, and Gordon has recently expressed his intent to play, so the team will be stronger.

Most of Slovenian players are entering their prime, I'd say the core has to stay together at least 3 more years until 2012 Olympics. Hopefully, next year with less injuries so that Lakovic won't have to play 40 minutes in the knockout stages. Oh, what if ...

PG: Beno Udrih, Jaka Lakovic, Goran Dragic
SG: Sani Becirovic, Samo Udrih
SF: Bostjan Nachbar, Domen Lorbek
PF: Matjaz Smodis, Uros Slokar
C: Erazem Lorbek, Mirza Begic, Primoz Brezec

And coach Zdovc has to stay. Right now, he's reluctant because he's disappointed with the loss and because he's also coaching Union Olimpija, but I'm hoping he'll reconsider. The players really listen to him and it's noticable on the court.

Becirovic has a lot of knee problems and he can't guard anyone and he struggles to stay healthy. I don't see him ever being much help to Slovena.

I see him as a big big offensive +..
Our team had problems with offense.. If he will be healthy, he could contribute a lot..
He plays in Slovenija now, that is also a big plus

How will he stay healthy for a club season and play in the summer? I just don't see it. He has way too many knee problems.

It's way to earley to talk abot wat will be next summer so this could be described theard of posibilitys and if. As for my Croatia this has bean described from public, players and evrybody else quite unsecsefull tournament so some changes will be made (actually I would like that this starts complete reorganization in evrey part of our basketball but not place to bother you)

Coach that could be leading us is curent Jasmin Repesa or back up Drazen Anzulovic. Unfortunaly this are only two real options.

As for players we are going to do some rechanges (posibility even for drastic especially if some younger talents make significent impruvment) and some older will retire from team and some will be changed so this players will probably be in combinations for next summer

PG Roko Leni Ukic (6'5 84. Millwake Bucks)
PG Toni Prostran (6'0 91. Zadar)
PG Rok Stipcevic (6'1 86. Zadar)
PG/SG Marko Popovic (6'1 82. Unics Kazan)
PG/SG/SF Zoran Planinic (6'7 82. CSK)
SG Dino Butorac (6'3 90. Cedevita)
SG Damir Rancic (6'6 83. Zadar)
SG/SF Marko Tomas (6'7 85. Cibona)
SG/SF Bojan Bogdanovic ((6'7 89. Cibona)
SG/SF Zoran Vrkic (6'7 87. Split)
SF Marin Rozic (6'7 83. Cibona)
SF Hrvoje Peric (6'8 85. Zadar)
SF/PF Damjan Rudez (6'9 86. Cedevita)
PF Marko Banic (6'9 84. Bilbao)
PF Damir Markota (6'10 85. Bilbao)
PF Tomislav Zubcic (6'11 90. Cibona)
PF/C Mario Delas (6'10 90. Split)
PF/C Kresimir Loncar (6'10 83. Unics)
PF/C Goran Suton (6'10 85. Utah Jazz)-?
PF/C Luksa Andric (6'11 85. Cibona)
PF/C Nikola Vujcic (6'11 78. Olympiacos)-he told he will do anything to prove that he sill should be in NT even it has been told that we will start some rebuilding
PF/C Ante Tomic (7'1 87. Zagreb)
C Mario Kasun (7'0 80. Efes Pilsen)-unlike Vujcic he said he will retire from NT but I would rather se him insted of Nikola
C Stanko Barac (7'2 86. Tau Ceramica)
