SERGIO LLULL >>>> RICKY RUBIO

Post#1 » by KOBE_PAUER » Mon Nov 30, 2009 1:08 am

I hope you can see someday this guy playing, he hasnt Rubios passing ability, but he is a hell of a point guard, pure shooter, athletic, he can dunk, great defender, he plays for the spanish national team aswell and he is pretty young, maybe 2-3 years more than Rubio. And he is a clutch player. I think this guy has more future NBA than Ricky Rubio, and he is improving more and more this season with Ettore Messina at Real Madrid. Remember that name, Sergio LLULL.

Really? Llull is playing very well this season, but to said he is better than Rubio? no, no, no.

Llull - 7.6 points, 1.7 Rb, 2.5 asists,

Rubio - 5.2 points, 2.1 Rb, 4.9 asists, 2.5 steals

In fact, Sergio Llull is at the moment playing excellent basketball and is more or less at Rubio's level.
Llull last year was a combo guard, more a shooting guard than a point guard. This year he is turning into a full point guard. Messina (Real Madrid's head coach) has preferred him to Prigioni a number of times already this season (remember, Prigioni was last year's ACB best point guard... better than Rubio).

He is improving on his weaknesses veeery quickly while not losing the strengths he already showed. He is still very intense, very physical, and he still makes good use of his good 3 point shooting and his fantastic first step (at least in Europe). It's only that he is now also playing much more in control basketball, executing, in general, the correct plays for his team and, as always, coming up big in clutch situations.

Although Rubio is not playing bad, his scoring is down from last year's. He's not even attempting to shoot (two or three games this year he even finished without shooting the ball at all, not even with layups). He keeps his passing and his steals at more or less the same rate, but he's not improving on his weaknesses. He's the second point guard in his team, not the first, and does not generally play clutch minutes.

Rubio does not seem to be the game changing force he was last year at Joventud, while Llull still is a super intense player for Real Madrid... Only now he is showing many other virtues.

If he's not yet playing better than Rubio, he will be soon unless Rubio reacts and starts playing better basketball.

Ricky is the first point guard in the rotation , he´s having more playing time than Lakovic and Sada in ACB and Euroleague and also he´s playing in clutch situations.

Rubio's problem is the guy cant shoot, so he never can be a clutch player. He can play CRUNCH time, but never will be the leader of a team taking the important plays. Thats why I said Llull has more future NBA than Rubio, his athleticism and shot is way better than Rubio who is an assist wizard, but thats not enought to triumph here....

Amazing 1st step for a white european PG... i like Llull a lot but i doubt he'll end up being better than Rubio... he's more a combo than a pure PG... of course he's better on offense than Ricky but as overall player i'd still take the 1990 born guy...

I think Lllull's game is more suited for the NBA than Rubio's. He's athletic, quick, and explosive on offense and active on defense which creates a lot of opportunities to score points.

Will he be a better player than Rubio based on those intangibles? I don't know. Being athletic, for example, doesn't necessarily equate to success in the NBA. It's going to take a lot of hard work for LLull to be an impact player in the league. The same goes for Rubio when he comes to the NBA.

For those who don¡t know or can't remember it, Rubio refused to go to Real Madrid this summer before joining Barcelona. Real Madrid is the team where Llull play, I'm not 100 % sure but i'd bet that most of those who are stating that Llull is a better prospect than Rubio might be Real Madrid supporters. 8-)

I like Llull, he's a good player and will be a nice contributor to the NT for the next decade, he might eventually go to the NBA and be succesful but get real, he's not and will never be in the same league as Rubio.

No no no, Im not even Spaniard, but I love watch basketball, this is a not biased opinion, Rubio is a great prospect, amazing assists, basketball IQ and defense. But I cant see him being a top PG if he cant improve his shot. He could be another Sergio Rodriguez....The same Jasikevicius failed badly and he was better than Rubio. Llull suits more the NBA style, Rubio too, if he could improve his shot, but if he cant, he will be a bust. Not a single coach will chose him as starter after the first year if he cant shoot.....And I heard he is shooting nothing this year in the ACB, how he will improve if he doesn try it??

Llull is better than Rubio at this time. But also Llull is 22 and Rubio is just 19 so this is a huge factor to consider. Llull is a good role player for Real on offense. Rubio is a one dimension player on offense for Barca. Both are good defensive players. So yea at this time Llull is a better player.

Lakovic was injured before the season started and he is just now recovering from the injury. In reality he is still the main point guard for Barca.

I don't think Llull would be much of an NBA player. He is quick and a very good leaper even for NBA standards and he has excellent ball handling and is a good shooter, but I think he would just be another run of the mill NBA point guard. Good athlete and decent shooter, but nothing special about him. He would be a decent backup point guard I think, about the same role he has in Real.

Rubio should be considered a much better prospect I would think for the NBA. Rubio is something like a Rajon Rondo type. But he's 2-3 years away I think from being a legit serious player. His reputation so far is all from his age and not based on how he performs. Even this year he is average at best. But I would expect him to be better at age 22 then Llull is now.
