Only the top two teams are guaranteed spots in next years Olympics, and only the top 6 will remain in contention to even qualify. With only one or two of those teams actually getting spots.

Here are some of the announced Squads.

Host Nation Lithuania announced a preliminary squad of about 20 players.. Some interesting names included..

Šarūnas Jasikevičius
Jonas Valančiūnas
Darius Songaila
Donatas Motiejūnas

Will this be our first chance to get a good glmpse at Valanciunas and Montiejunas?

I wouldn't hold my breath. Valanciunas will play in U-19 WC, plus some veteran front line players are back (Songaila, Lavrinovic brothers, Songaila) are back. Motiejunas chances are slightly better since main PF Kleiza is out. But then Songaila's form is unknown, Petravicius (top scorer in 2009EC) had back problems and one of Lavrinovic brothers had quite crappy season..

But if you ask me there are quite good chances that he will do it and
Chris Kaman too. The depth chart for germany would look like this:

PG Hamann / Schaffartzik / Günther
SG Schwethelm / Herber
SF Benzing / Zwiener
PF Nowitzki / Jagla / Ohlbrecht
C Kaman / Pleiss

I know that Elias Harris won't play this summer, but what about Demond Greene? If he isn't going to play, this will probably be the worst backcourt Germany has had in years, and the weakest in the entire tournament.

Weakest in the entire tournament? Probably not. Greene has been injured for several months. He still is at training camp with the national team but Coach Bauermann said by now he is not going to be in the roster.

But don`t underestimate the qualities of philip schwethelm. He has great size for a shooting guard and a great touch from downtown. The only thing that goes wrong with him are his athletic abilities.

Just about everyone but Dirk on that roster sucks. :dontknow:
Kaman should do ok in the Eurobasket (not a huge fan of him, though), Nowitzki is obviously Nowitzki, Jagla is a solid player that won't get so much burn with 2 nba players ahead of him. Benzing is ok, too. Pretty much everyone else sucks. I still don't understand how that stiff Pleiss got drafted.
The 1. German basketball league is horrible anyway. Casey Jacobsen wins MVP. WTF?

Greek NT update here: Looks like Bouroussis will be out since he caught to talk on the phone with one of the protagonist of a huge scandal in Greek soccer, ( cross games and illegal betting) asking him for a ''medicine'' that would improve his performance, and he admired that it wasnt the 1st time that he was getting it.

So if the law is not blind he should be banned from the FIBA competitions for 1-2 years. That ban doesnt apply on the NBA though so looks like his the only option for him.

I really want to see Pleiss play against NBA talent this Summer. He had a pretty decent season stashed away over seas.

I know OKC could use another 7footer to back up Perkins because Mullens and Aldrich simply don't look like the answer.

I'm glad Harris isn't playing for Germany. His game vanished last season for Gonzaga due to being dinged up. He needs to get healthy this year.

Pleiss will stay next seasin in Europe, so it would be nice to see him compete against better players at EuroBasket. I doubt Nowi will play and then we will suck so bad. Every loss under 20 points would be a success.

There is no way Kanter starts over Ilyasova. Ersan is their best player and he is the focal point of their offense.

Spain gets SERGE IBAKA !!!! They are going to naturalize him so he gets to play for spain. Lol its going to be weird seeing him on a team full of pale Spaniards. But he should definitely provide the team with some much needed athleticism for their frontcourt..

What's Preldzic doing there, he can't play for Turkey.
