US also needs to do some examination on why our 7 footers are lagging so far behind the rest of the world, AD and Bam are basically PFs in international play, we have no true 7 footers that can do what these foreign bigs do in terms of scoring, rebounding and spreading the floor while also being able to pass.

I agree and that is what I have been talking these last couple of years. Jokic for example would be great FIBA basketball player but it would be hard for him to be dominant like he is in NBA. NBA really went playing small ball since Warriors took charge. You need at least one big traditional center in your team. I think Shaq would agree with us as well.

When I first saw the US lineup, I was very surprised that they didn't put anyone on the team who had FIBA experience.

Hard to say whether or not a veteran leader (someone like Jrue Holiday or Demar Derozan, who have been there before) would have made a difference in the tournament, but I'm sure that those kinds of questions will be asked now that the US won't be winning gold.

Well this current B team still had good chances but obviously the Americans realize now that even the B team of the other nations are good too.

Simple solution for Team USA: send your best or this will keep happening.

That's the thing, I don't know if small ball was by choice or if it was just a matter of who was willing to come. Whatever the reason, roster composition obviously hurt.

But sht, even with the lack of size you can still play hard. Did anybody get that sense from us on the defensive end all game, except maybe the fourth? Hell, even then, we were getting down to crunch time and Bridges -- one of our best defenders -- wasn't even down in a proper stance to pressure the ball. Edwards got beat off the dribble a couple of times in critical situations. Reaves. Haliburton. Brunson got lit up all game. Jackson is supposed to be an elite weakside shot-blocker and he was in a haze all tournament.

Just not even close to the basic requisite effort in a semifinal game.

US needs a coach that adapts to what he sees. Kerr thinking you can play small while getting abused on the glass, that only works when you have Curry

They don't have any sniper shooters on the roster in general, they didn't set up their roster that way. I'm generally a fan of either having a volume pick and pop big or an off ball sniper 3PT shooter who runs around just to always keep the defense on their toes and occupied.

Cam is a sniper, but putting him in such a switch happy defense where he's either getting exposed by a ballhandler or killed in the post/boards by a big meant he was basically unplayable. This loss falls on Kerr to me, he never once tried Kessler and Jackson despite the fact USA was getting destroyed on the glass against frontcourt with real size.

Yea, I can give that to Cam, that's fine, but he wasn't doing much. You do have to be more versatile. They should have had Lue as the head coach because he'll just throw random stuff out there if he feels it can work or make a difference.

Milutinov is the MVP of this tournament not even close and how the hell is Avramovic NOT in the NBA his defense is god tier in FIBA. Made SGA look like a child.

It is too bad we will not likely see him in the NBA, would have liked seeing him in a Spurs uni.

I did not watch, because first I was busy with work, then I saw the team did really well, even hanging with the US through the first half, and then I did not want to jinx it. I guess it worked.

Now they'll play for the gold on my birthday. It's going to be a tough decision. Do I watch it live or not.
But for now I am just happy and in a couple of hours I'll have some dinner and watch this game from start to finish. And even though I know the result, I would not be surprised if my heartrate goes through the roof anyway.

The rest of the world is too good to just try beat by talent alone. Canada and US is very similar in that they look like a team put together just a week ago. They play like it's the Summer League game.
