You guys really need to come up with some new material.

I definitely think it's a big deal the USA is losing in this tournament. It illustrates to me how the US doesn't really have any good young prospects going forward. Guys like KD, Curry is the best American Players, but they are very old in the tooth. Even with those guys going forward next year in '24 I think it will be hard for the US winning gold. The tournament also showed the US is grossly undersized. There is not really any good US bigs outside of AD, KAT, etc.

KAT isn’t American for international play, and we really do have a huge dearth of bigs.

It is true that Americans don’t care. So many sports and entertainment options. We get we can lose in a one-off. I think we’re supremely confident that if you let every team gel equally, and played longer series, the US would be the clear cut winners each and every time. So confident a one-off loss just isn’t something to get worked up over.

As an aside, I like when we bring role players like Josh Hart, Reaves, and Portis on to the roster. Guys that play off of stars during their day-to-day job, don’t need the ball all the time, and aren’t shell shocked trying to do something different (like Ingram). I can’t believe how many fools still say “well, if we bring all our best players!!” because “all our best players” simply don’t fit well as a team.

LOL the Euro hot takes are in. Congrats to Germany again for the win and especially for exposing the US— that if they don’t send their A team, even some Euro scrubs can beat them by playing better basketballl and having better coaching.

I don't think that you understand Sgt Major's point. His point wasn't that Serbia isn't European, his point was that Serbia is not in the EU (European Union). And he's right. The Serbia isn't in the EU. He should know, he IS Serbian.

As someone who probably gets most people's viewpoint, I think most European ( West/East/whatever European you wanna identify with ) being LITERALLY correct that Serbia isn't in the European Union is correct. However, A LOT of American ( North/South ), Asian people equate the word EU as European and NOT European Union, meaning Serbia is part of EU aka Europe.

Realgm is practically an international forum so I get what people all over probably means.

Not yet needed. If you start losing this way in the Olympics and/or when you get your A team back and still losing to these Euro teams, you start panicking.

To be honest, everything went sideways after K retired. I believe in over 10 years, he only had one single loss with team USA, that semi against Greece when it was his first tournament.

If you give Coach K a B level team, you'd have the same result.

This is the freaken A team. Unless you want Tatum, this as as good as it gets. After Tatum, the best player not here who is American is Mitchell. Ant fills the exact same role as Mitchell and probably is better (or will be next year).

No excuses losing game with 2-3x more talent than any other team.

This is still most talented roster on paper, not like Kerr was coaching a big underdog here. 2010 team was also B/C/D team, but K made it into dominant force, the second leading guy in minutes on that team was 2010 Chauncey Billups...

This isn't as good as it gets and not particularly close. The team is missing LeBron, Steph, Durant, AD, Lillard, Butler, Fox, Draymond, Morant Booker. Even the role players aren't the best.

I got it wrong brother, you were right. I never expected such passive and predictable coaching from Kerr (and fkn Spo!), they changed nothing and solved nothing. Nor did I expect Andi frigging Obst having a career night on the biggest stage he will ever see in his career. Good on him honestly, very impressive.

That’s part of what I was trying to argue. I said they should be favourites but we’re far too short priced for a knock out tournament. Winning 3 straight in these tournaments is super hard and unless USA had guys like Curry/KD etc, there’s no way they should’ve been under even money.

Yup, no justifying this loss. Kerr failed to make adjustments and teams around the world are getting better. But don't tell me replacing one or two of these to established veterans won't change a thing. It's easier to evaluate things in hindsight and this is RealGM, so you'd have overreactions to the hilt. This is NOT the best USA team possible at this stage and it showed.

You are correct. It is entirely possible that people are just using those terms differently which results in that confusion.

I'll give you Fox, Morant and Booker but everyone else is way too old by this point. LeBron is 38, Steph is 35, Durant is turning 35 in a few weeks, Butler is turning 34 in less than a week, Lillard is 33 and AD is 30 and injury-prone.

The chances of these players being healthy and in a good enough condition to play in late August/early September are basically zero. Do they really count as the A team if they cannot realistically be there?

So now we're saying we'll see the same makeup in Paris? That's just wrong. This was a B team (Under 25 years old i believe but let me check)

Edit i was thinking average. So yeah, 28 years old is the oldest (Portis and Hart).

Same point, this is not the best USA team, or we conveniently forget about it.

Guys calm down, we usually say EU on foreign forums when we simply just talk about Europe as a continent. Europeans are well aware EU also means European Union. Since i'm from Slovenia i also know Serbia is not in European Union but it's still in Europe.

Man Austin Reaves and Jalen Brunson really got hunted defensively. Maybe adding a **** defender in Trae Young would help?
