The new "Ricky rubio"

Post#1 » by sisibilio » Sun Aug 15, 2010 8:57 pm

Dario Saric. 6-8 or 6-9 multitalented PG-SG-SF-PF or whatever.
He's been a well known name in Europe for a while and he's about to start getting Rubiolike hype oversseas pretty soon.
He has drawn comparisons with Kukoc or Bodiroga and is regarded in Croatia as the best prospect since the independence.
Today he played the final in the u-16 european tournament where he got a triple double (30 pts 11 reb 11 as) and finished just 1 assist shy of leading the tournament in the 3 categories.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

I have heard about him. What would be his position in NBA? There´s any video of him in the U-16 tournament?

Every few years Croatians falsely hype one of their kids as the next Drazen or Kukoc, but Saric finally seems to be the real deal for them.

Barba, he is a 6'8'' point forward, Bodiroga is a good comparison, but right now he projects to become better than him.

Then he'll be hated and 'overrated' in a few years

Anyway, Rubio's perfomance at the U16 European Championship is the best of this competition's history.
When I finish a game, they ask me "how did it go? how many points did you score?", when the real question should be "what have you done today to help your team win?". - Ricky Rubio.

If he´s compared to Bodiroga, does he have the speed to be a NBA PG?

last year he had oficall offer from Caja Laboral (ex Tau Ceramica) for 3milion Euros for 11 season, he also had visit there, but his familiy wannted that to be no longer than 8 year contract. He also had unoficiall ofers from CSK, Real, Panathinaikos, Olympiacos, Cibona, Zadar, Cedevita etc. but his father decided it is best for him that he stays in Croatia for less monen and moved him from basketball academy Dražen Petrović to KK Zagreb. He has contract for for 4 years with option to extend his contract for 4 years. They sold Tomić and Tomas for 1million euoros to Real Madrid in recent years so you can imagine what buyout they will ask for him

So far he shows lot more promise in terms of speed and athleticisam then Bodiroga. He is compard with him because his skill level, high IQ and tough character killer insticts that reminds of Bodiroga. Also Bodiroga isn't only one him being compared, they compare him also with Kukoč, Petrović and some not only in Croatia go very far and compare him with Magic (his idol and a player he builds his game on)

Anway, he is still a kid, and I'm afraid so much hype could hurt him and he still has far way to go.

what position will he play? He is 6'9 now and by people who mesured him say he will reach 6'10, maybe 6'11 so most likley he will play 3 and 4. PG, no chance. If he fullfill hype perhaps he may be main team playmeker with other guard's helping him, but as prime PG I truly doubt
