Will GB play in 2012 Olympics

Post#1 » by Fuzzy Logic » Tue Aug 24, 2010 4:00 pm

It's the only sport that GB haven't been guaranteed a team place for the Olympics and with some serious ground being made over the last 18 months it would be a travesty if we weren't allowed in. Any thoughts...

I don't remember exactly which where the requirements, if it was just prove to be competitive or qualify for the 2011 Eurobasket. Anyway, if you win your last 2 games this week, you'll be qualified for Lithuania 2011 and there won't be any doubt.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

I believe they have to remain in Division A and they will qualify. They are 1 game away from qualifying from the 2011 European Championships right now, which would more than likely keep them in Division A going into 2012, thus qualifying them for the Olympics.

As long as they make it to Eurobasket (which is likely the case), they should be in the Olympics.

No, not true. Basketball is the only 2012 Olympic sport where the home nation isn't granted an automatic place.

GB should have done enough if they close out the game they are currently playing right now, but nothing is certain.

Great Britain beat Bosnia & Herzegovina and thus qualified for Eurobasket 2011. No reason why they shouldn't be able to play in Olympics now.

There will be no more Division A and B after this Qualification Round!!! Since the Eurobasket expanded from 16 to 24 Teams, the Fiba Europe decided to make just one whole qualification competition for 2011!
