With the threat of an NBA lockout, and the cancellation of Summer league, Eurobasket just got more exciting. Only the top two teams are guaranteed spots in next years Olympics, and only the top 6 will remain in contention to even qualify. With only one or two of those teams actually getting spots.

Here are some of the announced Squads.

France is coming strong.

Tony Parker
Roddy Beobois
Mickael Pietrus
Boris Diaw
Joakim Noah
Ian Mahinmi
Nicalos Batum

Spain is the defending champs and has to be the favorites

Ricky Rubio
Rudy Fernandez
Pau Gasol
Marc Gasol
Victor Claver
Calderon
Navarro
Serge Ibaka
Felipe Reyes
San Emeterio
Sergio Llull

Italy will be raining three's with..

Bargnani
Gallinari
Belinelli

Host Nation Lithuania announced a preliminary squad of about 20 players.. Some interesting names included..

Šarūnas Jasikevičius
Jonas Valančiūnas
Darius Songaila
Donatas Motiejūnas

Will this be our first chance to get a good glmpse at Valanciunas and Montiejunas?

Serbia is filled with young talent that was on exhibit last year at the world championships

Miloš Teodosić
Nemanja Bjelica
Kosta Perović

...much more to come

Who will show up for the Turkey team? Will Kanter play? Kanter, Asik, Illyasova, Turkoglu, Erdin and company could be a very tough squad to beat.

Will Dirk play?

So many questions! I can't wait!

As of now Dirk is not sureif he will play for germany this "off-season".
But if you ask me there are quite good chances that he will do it and
Chris Kaman too. The depth chart for germany would look like this:

PG Hamann / Schaffartzik / Günther
SG Schwethelm / Herber
SF Benzing / Zwiener
PF Nowitzki / Jagla / Ohlbrecht
C Kaman / Pleiss

Yeah it will be interesting, I think Spain, Lithuania and Serbia are the favourites.

France looks strong but they always look strong yet rarely come together as a team.

France has always been playing like a D-League Franchise. Every player very athletic but with a lock of outside shooting. France will be "good" this year but nothing more.

Serbia looked very strong during the last world chamionships. The same for Lithaunia.
Spain will always be one of the main contenders. What abould Greece? Any reports of
their roster? Diamantidis? Papaloukas? Fotsis? Calathes? Sofoklis?

Nobody has seen the French squad healthy yet so you can't really make a determination yet.

Ronny Turiaf will play for France too, from what I've seen.

Lorbek - Slokar
Vidmar - Begič

Diamantidis said that he will not play but the fed is trying to change his decision. Bouroussis said that IF he is healthy he will be in. Papaloukas is doubtful but in general is old and he had bad season.

Fotsis Calathes (without Diamantidis and considering his amazing progress this season will be starter having similar role to Diamantidis). Sofo given a good health will be in too. Koufos also.

Looks like we will be on a rebuilding mode so some new names will be in like:
Kostas Sloukas 22 y/o PG, ive seen him listed from 6'3 to 6'6. Heady PG, with nice J, but slow and nonathletic. Imagine Zissis.
Kostas Vassiliadis: 6'6 SG/SF 26 y/o playing in Spain. Dead eye shooter but unfortunately thats all what he does.
Kostas Papanikolaou 6'8 SF 22 y/o. Very nice athlete high motor, is everywhere. He can shoot the 3, can reb very good from the SF position and can see also some time on PF.

Edit: Add there Pat Calathes the older brother of Nick. 6'10 SF very skilled inside out, but poor athlete and very weak body.

Erden just had a surgery but will most likely play.Asik was injured in ECF but he'll play too.

So it'll most likely be like this:

Tunceri/Arslan
Güler/Onan/Atsür
Turkoglu/Yarangüme/(Ilyasova)
Ilyasova/Hersek
Asik/Erden/Savaş

I know that Elias Harris won't play this summer, but what about Demond Greene? If he isn't going to play, this will probably be the worst backcourt Germany has had in years, and the weakest in the entire tournament.

Weakest in the entire tournament? Probably not. Greene has been injured for several months. He still is at training camp with the national team but Coach Bauermann said by now he is not going to be in the roster.

But don`t underestimate the qualities of philip schwethelm. He has great size for a shooting guard and a great touch from downtown. The only thing that goes wrong with him are his athletic abilities.

I'm pretty sure Roddy is out, Cuban basically forbid him to play.
