he's one of the best but I put Sabonis, Petrovic, Dirk and even O.Schimdt above on individual skills. On accolade? Maybe!

And I lol'd hard on the post saying "Melo"

I would say Sabonis and Schmidt first but Gasol is in the conversation. You cant go wrong if you think he is the best.

Melo is laughable but at the same time not, we all know how his career has been, but if you just take into what he does in FIBA games, he is awesome and has some of the most accomplishments from it as stated above.

If I am being brutally honest Oscar Schmidt has kind of become a casual FIBA fans go-to "hipster-pick"; he was great, but his scoring numbers have made him become immortalized in a way that I personally find unreasonable.

I would liken it to someone calling Oscar Robinson the most versatile player all time because of his triple-double; he is one of them for sure, but it is just a stretch.

He is hipster pick in NBA forums. Personally, I think hes always been overrated, never played defense and just had that Bargnani esque ''I do more important things than defense and rebounding'' mentality. He always seemed to chase individual awards over championships. Never won squat.
Pau has Eurobasket golds, world championship gold, all as a clear number 1 guy and a leader. True all time great. Yeah he had better supporting cast, but he also made others around him much better, much more so than Schmidt, not even close.

I was just getting into the NBA when Pau was drafted.

What were people saying about him pre draft? Was there a lot of hype, of were the grizz looked down upon for drafting him?

Well i think he was drafted by ATL right? & then traded.

I think he kind of has to be. He's beaten the US. He has so many accolades. As mentioned in the original post, he's the all time leading scorer.

Funnily enough, people thought his natural position was SF back then, and said he could even play SG. I remember that the most, that people were super intrigued by this new breed of international 7 footers who could play on the wing.

I can't really tell if there was a lot of hype in the USA being a spaniard myself, but here in Spain we saw Gasol as a very very safe pick, he had amazing physical tools and he kind of dominated in euroleague and spanish cup. It wasn't a reach pick like Porzingis, who never dominated spanish league, or Antetokounmpo.

we gone full circle weren't we. From getting a boner having 7 footer on the wing in 2001 to having 6'7 "big" on C cause small ball.
