Will BARCA to dominate the Euroleague with new Coach (Saras)?

Post#1 » by reflex35 » Fri Jul 3, 2020 10:45 am

So Barca signs Sarunas Jasikevicius.

Barca has the biggest budget in Europe at the moment and they just got Sarunas Jasikevicius as their new head coach.

Most people probably know Saras as a player and now as a coach. A guy is crazy for winning and will do everything it takes to help Barcelona win Euroleague and ACB for the next few years.

What do you think - is Barca going to dominate with Saras in Europe?

We will see. Something obviously wasnt clicking with that team in the past few years, because their roster was definitely championship caliber the whole time. I loved all their GM moves, but it didnt translate to wins.
Will be interesting to see if this team shoots a lot of 3s and how much creative freedom star guards have, because Zalgiris had very little of it. Was it Jasikevicius system or was he just adapting to Zalgiris roster, we will find out.
Barcelona have some of my favorite players in Euroleague. I love Hanga, Heurtel, Pangos. They have Mirotic and Davies, that team is stacked, I will definitely be cheering for them to win it all.

No, I don't expect Barca to be dominant, although they're perhaps currently the best team on paper. The debate over whether Calathes can win a title as a non-shooter will be settled.

But dominant is probably a stretch. I expect Real, CSKA (who have also had a ridiculous off-season so far, if they truly bring in Shengelia and Mulitinov and get Clyburn back), Efes, and Maccabi will still be competitive.

Actually, Barca lowered their budget, due to the financial impact of the coronavirus. So now they have the same budget as Real Madrid.

Biggest budgets (30+ million euros) right now are:

1. Real Madrid and Barca
3. Khimki Moscow Region
4. CSKA Moscow
5. Olimpia Milano
6. Zenit St. Petersburg & Efes

Unfortunately, Barca also delayed the opening of their new arena by two years, due to the coronavirus financial impact.

I agree that it's a lot closer this year in terms of budget. But that's ok - it will be more interesting to watch.
Out of those teams CSKA improved the most since last year even on a smaller budget, so I think they will be the main rival for Barca.

For Barca it will be interesting to watch how Saras will adjust to top guys and how they all will get along together (Mirotic, Calathes, Higgins).

Saras does not seem to be a guy who will "change".

It was a great interview with Calathes a few days ago in which he tells the story om how much he hated Saras when they were in Athens and Nick was a young player... It seems that Saras was constantly SCREAMING at him.

Nick now says that he understands... And I say let's see how it works out now as Saras will be again screaming at you Nick.
Funny thing how everything comes around.
