Wow i m not greek ( spanish ^^) but im excited about what Childress can do in the greece league and in the Euroleague. I dont follow the greek league cos i consider there are only 3 or 4 good clubs in that league. But would be nice if any greek dude can post weekly his performances in the league.

Anyway what stats do you think he can do in both leagues?

I will start my predictions:

Greek league: 30 MPG 18 PPG 6 RPG 2 APG
Euroleague: 33 MPG 16 PPG 5 RPG 2 APG

They play 8 minutes less.
That team is loaded.
The scoring is spread throughout the team.
Assists count is different.
sthg like 12,5,2

Did anyone see this kind of a thing coming? I personally see planaria's numbers as the most accurate. Maybe I would give him a couple percentage points more in the assist department.

An interview with Olympiacos assistant coach Manouselis where he explains the role Childress will have on the team:

Tribune: Why Childress?

Manouselis: At the beginning of our free-agent search, we never considered Josh a realistic option because we felt he would sign an NBA contract at the mid-level exemption or slightly above. When we were made aware of the fact that Josh would sincerely consider us as an option we saw his specific skill set at the [small forward/shooting guard] position as a perfect fit to our roster. Josh is an incredibly efficient perimeter player who could spread the floor, penetrate, is a great offensive rebounder, has excellent ballhandling skills for a player of his size and athletically he can play above the rim. Josh also has great character and is an extremely intelligent young man and that intelligence translates to the basketball court. Josh's ability to make an impact on the game without the ball was particularly enticing to us considering we had recently signed two-time Euroleague MVP point guard Theodoros Papaloukas. Papaloukas is a facilitator who needs the ball to be effective so we wanted a [small forward/shooting guard] that would complement his talents rather than create any duplication. I believe Josh will flourish offensively playing with Papaloukas and defensively he will be a lockdown perimeter defender.

Tribune: Were other restricted free agents considered before Childress? The Tribune reported overtures were made to Luol Deng.

Manouselis: We never looked at it as restricted versus unrestricted free agents. The owners of Olympiacos, Panagiotis and George Angelopoulos, are so financially strong that we also never really had any monetary restrictions during our free-agent search. We simply targeted players that fit our position of need in order to contend for the Greek League and the Euroleague. While Deng is an excellent talent we never seriously considered him because we believe in the European game he is a [small forward/power forward] and we specifically targeted a [small forward/shooting guard]. I also want to add that we never made an offer to Ben Gordon; that rumor is completely false. A lot of the rumors associated with Olympiacos and other free agents may have transpired because we had to reach out to many different players to first find out if they would consider a career overseas. The initial conversations with agents always included money necessary for a player to move overseas but that does not equate to us making an offer. We then narrow that pool of realistic targets and move forward with offers to those who we like best. While we were at the [Las Vegas] Summer League, this pool of players changed on a daily basis either because of a player signing with an NBA team or a player agent saying his client would consider a move overseas for X amount of dollars. I will say that very early on we had made an offer to James Posey and later during the Summer League we extended an offer to Ricky Davis. We had an excellent meeting with Ricky in Las Vegas but while negotiating with him we were offered Childress. From that point we decided to move forward with Josh due to the fact that we felt he suited our needs better at the [small forward/shooting guard] position. The minute Josh was offered to us we as an organization agreed that he was our No. 1 target.

Tribune: This signing created national headlines about a possible trend for NBA players to sign overseas contracts. Do you believe the game has become global enough that Childress' path will become more common?

Manouselis: Every situation is different. In our case Josh was the last piece to our puzzle and we paid what the market dictated in order to secure his services. If the strength of the Euro versus the Dollar continues I believe this will become more commonplace. As the Euroleague draws more interest and therefore more consistent revenue streams that may also be a factor as to whether this will become the norm.

Tribune: We've seen several times in international play that the United States no longer enjoys constant basketball supremacy? How competitive would you classify the Greek basketball league as compared to the NBA? Other international leagues?

Manouselis: The closest thing that Europe has to the NBA is the Euroleague because it consists of all the top teams in Europe. These teams have the biggest budgets and therefore have the ability to secure the best players. Olympiacos plays in both the Euroleague competition and the Greek League. The Greek League is one of the better leagues in Europe but there is a considerable drop off in parity from the top four to five teams and the rest of the league. This situation is very similar to most domestic leagues in Europe. Think of the domestic leagues in Europe like college basketball in the States (some conferences stronger than others) and the Euroleague as your NBA.

Tribune: How important is Childress' signing to Olympiacos?

Manouselis: Truthfully Josh's signing is just as important as all the other signings we made this summer. We sincerely emphasize the team and we either collectively win or lose. No individual is more important than the team. We recognize that Josh signing with us has created somewhat of a splash but that was not our intent. We simply were looking to put the best possible team on the floor when our season starts and that included Josh. We want Josh to play within himself and not try to do too much because of this becoming such a big story. We simply want him to help us win championships.

He will probably play at the 3. The team has Bourousis, Schortsanitis, Printezis, Vujcic, Erceq and Vuougioukas at the 4 and 5 and they are all good players. There is also Vasilopoulos who is more of an inside player than Childress. I don't expect him to get many minutes at the 2 either because there's Greer, Halperin and Macijauskas there (Macijauskas might be released though).

2 games against the same opponent in Karpensi:
Josh scored 19 points on September 15th in OLY's first friendly vs. Olympia Larisas. 79-66 victory.
Josh sat out the 2nd game the next day in a 72-71 Olympiacos victory.

For the 3-game tourney in Rhodes that was played on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd (finished today):
Childress had 17 points in that Partizan game on the 20th where we lost 77-74 (Josh missed the potential game winning lay-up).
9 points in the 80-85 loss to Panellinios on the 21st.
And today we beat the hosts Kolossos Rodos (Rhodes) 88-82 as Childress had 14 points and 5 rebounds.

Interview.

First of all, Josh, how do you like Greece so far?

"So far, I am really enjoying myself and getting to see what I can of Athens. It's a great city and I am just having fun using my free time to try to learn about a new culture."

You surprised a lot of people this summer by joining Olympiacos to play in the Euroleague. What was the opportunity you saw that convinced you to make this move?

"I think that what I found was a good opportunity for me as a person and as a player to grow. Granted, it's not growing in the NBA, where I was until now, but it's growing in a way that was important to me. Obviously, it was a big step both personally and career-wise, but I am sure right now that it was a good move."

I saw Olympiakos play this weekend, and it's obvious they need some time to gel with all the new recruits. Childress looked out of place and lost out there at times, but that can be said for a bunch of Olympiakos players. Papaloukas seemed to be struggling with his new teammates and he made some uncharacteristic mistakes.

It's clear that Childress is a huge contribution to the team, especially defensively where he can really use his size and athleticism to alter passes and shots. I think he'll soon fit right in, the team just needs some more practice together.

Team is doing pretty good so far, still need to build up that chemistry but I like what I've seen so far this season.

Childress will average somewhere around 15-18 PPG, with maybe 4-5 rebounds, 2 assists

and those greek letters on the jerseys look wild when I see "GREER" and "CHILDRESS" also, haha, good luck to Afro Thunder this year overseas.
