Eurobasket 2009

Post#1 » by britblazerdude » Sat Jul 26, 2008 10:09 pm

Eurobasket 2009 is coming up next year and I was wondering if NBATV typically shows these games? It is the first time GB has qualified for a major tournament since 1948 and I am incredibly excited for it.

Yes, they do. They did when Russia won it a couple years ago.

Allegedly highlights of the Gb games are on basketball247.com but I can't find 'em!
They do have some amazing photos of the Czech game.
Have you tried the FIBA.com site?

GB hasn't qualified to the Eurobasket yet. They are actually playing in the qualifying round with a bunch of other teams. Here are the teams that have already made it:

1. Poland (as host)
2. Russia
3. Spain
4. Lithuania
5. Greece
6. Germany
7. Croatia
8. Slovenia

Seven teams will qualify from the Qualifying Round that is being held from 20 August to 20 September 2008.

One last team will qualify from the Additional Qualifying Round, that will be held from August 5 to August 30, 2009.

GB is in the Group D of the Qualifying Round alongside Israel, Czech Republic and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The qualifying round games are being held as we speak and GB is 2-1 so far.

Anyway, I bet there will some channels online or on sat to watch Eurobasket 2009 next year.

If Britain wins tomorrow in their rematch with Israel, I really like their chances to qualify. Especially with the second place team in Group C 1-2 right now. A win tomorrow and GB should only have to split to get in.

I found the highlights! yay!
They were deceptively right in the centre of the page, the last place I looked...

Freeland is being an efficiency beast in limited minutes at the moment. I'm looking forward to seeing him next year in Portland and I wouldn't be surprised if he's a major third choice scorer in Poland 2009

GB win the group, and qualify for Eurobasket. It should also be enough to grab a spot in the 2012 Olympics.

Yay.

Take out Parker from France and they're worse than Belgium. What a horrible team that was.

Exactly. But I think they'll still make to Eurobasket throught extra qualifying round next year, same as Italy. The best players will come to play.

there is just one spot left for the Eurobasket, and 6 teams in the Additional Qualifying Round!

France
BIH
Italy
Portugal
Finland
Belgium

Mea culpa, I just browsed an article about this today and misread how many spots there is. In that case, I think France will qualify if they bring their best players. Italy is in rebuilding phase and their team is pretty average.

I feel bad that the Bosnian team didn't make it, they have many quality players, but they somehow always come out short.

BIH:

Nihad Đedović 25 MPG (1990.)
Elmedin Kikanovic 16 MPG (1988.)
Nemanja Gordic 16 MPG (1988.)

its a generation change, a great new generation is comming!

Yes, you have a lot of promising prospects, thanks for providing our national team with them. :D

Seriously though, how are the facilities and fanbases (football is obviously the most popular) in BIH? It seems that every promising youngster from Bosnia decides to play somewhere else. Đedović is going to play for Barcelona this season, Kikanović is with Crvena Zvezda, Gordić plays for Budučnost, etc.
